BINGO starts Tuesday, February 1st

Alright!

We're VERY close to the start date for Freeze-Frame Bingo!

I wanted to remind everyone to PHOTOCOPY your cards and use the photocopy, not the original for playing along.

You'll need to re-use that card for the entire year.

I'm very excited to get this game started.  I think it will be a lot of fun, and we've had a terrific response so far.  I've sent out a lot more bingo cards than I expected to!

Just out of curiosity, how many have you sent out?

At last count I beleive we have 25 sets of cards out for a total of 100 cards in all.

We were really only expecting about 10 or so, because the VAST majority of listeners never interact with us in any way.  They don't use the request system and they don't use the forums.

We currently have 140 people that have us selected as their favorite station (which means that everytime they turn on their player we're the station that starts up), but only 34 forum member :(

I think a lot of folks just can't take the time away from work to chat a little.

That's ok, we're still happy to supply em' with some tunes!

I expect we'll see another surge in bingo cards being sent out once we start calling numbers and people start thinking "hey, why aren't I involved in this!  It's FREE STUFF MAN!"

Who doesn't like free stuff?

ONE DAY LEFT TIL BINGO STARTS.....EVERYONE READY TO WIN SOME MAJORLY COOL SWAG? I guess this is as good a time as any to tell my Junior High school Bingo Night Story.

I loved playing bingo, so when my junior high school had a bingo night, I was Totally there. There were so many cool prizes, video games & a game system, a 10-speed bike, CD's, Movies, Gift Certificates to resteraunts, Sporting equipment, stereos, mini TV's and the like. Most of it was donated from area businesses and the reusable Numberd Bingo card needed to be purchased for a $10 entry fee for the whole night. A prize was selected, the game was played, & the first bingo won the prize, & start over.

Well after 2 1/2 hours, all of the big prizes had been won, (some kids won multiple times) yet I hadn't won a thing. Prizes left were things like 1 free sub at the deli, 2 free movie rentals, 3 Games of bowling, things like that. I would have been happy with any of those as well, and so late in the night, they started giving away those smaller prizes like a raffle, calling out a 3 digit number from the tops of our cards, & whoever's bingo card had that number won that certificate. Well No luck there either. I was so frustrated.

Just before the close of the night, & the big giveaway (the bike) they had one final certificate, $15 dollars credit at the local dry cleaner. I turned to my buddy and said, "Watch, after all this time, THAT is the kind of Prize I would win"...

Well God must have a huge sense of humor, Cuz sure enough I won the dry cleaning...whoopty freakin doo...I wear Jeans & T-Shirts...what is a 12 year old gonna do with dry cleaning? And to make matters worse, Because I had my "Major Award" I was no longer eligable for the Bike.

To add salt to the wounds, The following year I attended the bingo night, determined to make up for last years shutout...& what did I end up with...

ANOTHER $15 in Dry Cleaning... 2 years...Tons of cool prizes...and $30 of clean clothes for my parents to show for it....at least they were handing out free school pizza.

So All you board members who have signed up for this game...a word of warning....I have 14 years of pent up bingo anger at being a bingo loser...I don't want to have to go all bingo Hulk on your butts so...we'll just leave it at that....

I am hoping I get my bingo card today so that I can play tomorrow.

I used to go to bingo with my grandma when I was a kid at the local Moose lodge.  It was fun and I remember winning a couple of times.

When I'm not up here in the office in front of this screen, I'm usually out in my shop doing woodworking. Today, I picked up some wire and a few RCA connectors and got it set up so I can feed my laptop audio out to the stereo amp in the shop. Maybe I'll have a chance to pick up a number or two now!

You're all set DOVETAILS!

Don't worry, I'll try to repeat the Bingo numbers as much as possible during the day so you can catch them.

I live in a small town that has bingo at the K.C. Hall on Tuesday nights.  I don't usually get to go, but I made a special trip to go with my grandma.  I had never won before.  The last game is a blackout that is worth about 400 bucks.  I played along, but knew I wasn't going to win.  Lo and behold, I won!  OMG, the old ladies were mad!  "Never comes, but wins the $400!" I heard more than once.  I haven't been back since.  I didn't want them to lynch my poor grandma (who could take them all!) if I went back.

Those old ladies really are scary... You have to have nerves of steal to be the caller at a bingo hall. You get something wrong, or announce them too quietly, and you're liable to have the curse of a thousand grannies on you. And forget it if you call bingo and don't really have it, amateur... by then they've thrown their paper sheets in the garbage and are lighting torches.

Trish--I did too.  My phone has been going non stop and depending on the call I sometimes have to hit the mute button.  It seems I miss my requests that way too.

When was the first number called?  Is there a specific time that he comes on the air, or the game will start each day?

I think you have a great marketing tool on your hands. I never tune out, but this will definitely make more listeners listen and listen often. This gives me something personal to look forward to during the hum drum of the day! Thanks! B I N G O, B I N G O, B I N G O, and Bingo was his name-oh!

Sorry guys,

My schedule doesn't allow me to guarantee specific times that I'll call the numbers, but in general I'll be shooting for one before noon CST & two after noon.

I'm sensitive to the fact that some people leave as early as 3 our time, or don't get in until as late as 11, so I'll do my best to get ALL THREE numbers called in that time frame and then I'll repeat them throughout the day for everyone.

Don't forget, if you should happen to miss them, I'll continue to announce them in the evening, and on weekends I'll recap the entire week, so if you have home access you can check in that way too.

What would be even more fair is if you only announced numbers that I have on my cards!

In addition to the song request system, maybe you could have a bingo number request system, where people could request that you call a certain number, say for example the last number they need for a bingo!

The music has been extremely good today (With the exception of Sweet Lil Gal, which made me actually take my headphones off, talk about making you want to rob a liquor store!), so I have no problems with listening all the time, but lunch is essential.  Caught the numbers and was really glad.  Yeah, I get to work at 6:30 a.m. and leave at 3, so I'm glad we'll hear them between those times.  That is really fair.

By the way, thanks to whoever requested "I saw red" by Warrant, I haven't heard that song in years and had even forgotten about it.  I love that song.  Good job, whoever it was!

*sniff, sniff*

I had to leave early for lunch, eat, then run a whole bunch of errands. I missed the first round of numbers but should be able to listen for a while this afternoon.

But on the bright side, while sitting here on the phone, I've almost got a whole row of squares blacked in.

Trish,

What song do you mean when you say "Sweet Lil Girl"?  I'm just curious what song you found so bad you had to take the headphones off.

Hey, I've never heard that Ryan Adams song, what's the deal, is it mega sad or something?  I gotta hear it now, but I don't wanna send Trish running.

Go ahead and play it, Jeremy.  I watch my screen, I'll put 'em back on when it's done.  I'll take one for the team.

Hey, Ultimo, don't worry about it.  I'm sure I've requested songs that made other people cringe (Ie., Nelson).  If you like it, request it.  Freezeframe is for all of us, not just me.
