Wednesday

I fell in the shower this morning, but the only thing that hurts so far is the palm of my left hand.  So I'm doing most of my typing with my right hand.

It doesn't look like today should be too bad of a day otherwise, though.

Doesn't seem like a positive way to start the day Mz. Hope you are okay and the day gets better.

I have quite a bit of work to do. Many small issues need to be addressed and answered and then simply inform the boss that I did things. I just have to get started. If I can get myself on a roll I will be okay. I think. Getting started is the biggest part of the battle for me.

Carry on.

Sorry you fell MZ! I often will get into the shower and skate around on something that AC put in her hair the day before that didn't rinse down all the way. We had some pretty bad storms last night. My Dad called and was giving me the play by play on the police scanner in Sturgis. There was a group struck by lightning, two power poles down. A huge circus type tent was blowing down main street and baseball size hail.

Feel better Mz!
So tired. I did sleep well though. I woke up with my arm hurting though. Not sure why. Last night at the girl's equestrian practice ended up being a disaster. Practice was ok but afterwords the girl went crazy. None of the adults know why she got so emotional and started getting b*tchy and crying. My husband took offense to it and figures it won't be long until we are done with this. She started crying when she found out that we were taking her home instead of her Mom. I personally don't think that is why she started crying (my husband does) but we remain clueless anyway. I'm not sure I can take watching her be mean to that horse much more though. Poor horse doesn't know if he is gonna get kissed, yelled at or hit! furious

Anyway I am having my soda early today. Picked up a Big Gulp before heading into work.

Oh man, I'll bet it was havoc in Sturgis!

Yeah, I've been using solid shampoo and conditioner lately, so sometimes little bits of the bar will get in the bottom of the tub making it slippery. But I'm pretty good at rinsing them out, with the exception that I had the conditioner in my hair at the time and I was reaching out to the sink to grab a washcloth. Still, the only place that's sore is my hand, so really that's not too bad for the type of fall I had (I fell onto the side of the tub, half in and half out of the shower).

Wow, Mz . . . glad it wasn't any worse.

I'm home with the boy today because we don't have a sitter. It looks like you're stuck with me today.

We went out the fair to look at the animals last night. The boy really likes the rabbits. Tonight is the motorcycle/cart/atv races. Its getting pretty boring because there are so many ATVs now, but he still enjoys it.

Ouch! Glad you didn't hit the sink or something! I think that is my worst fear...dying with my boys in the air for all to see. no.gif

The girl got 2 bunnies from the 4H fair. Well one is technically not hers. The one that is deemed hers is a bit meaner. Honestly I think somehow the rest of the animals that know her have all communicated among themselves and warned them about her. I do not approve of her patience with animals. And I often believe she gets what is coming to her.

Morning all.  My dad stopped by yesterday with some rather disturbing news.  Back in 2000, he had open heart surgery where they replaced a bad valve in his heart.  Ever since he had the surgery done, he's had problems breathing whenever he does anything except sit.  He's seen his cardiologist on a yearly basis and has told him each time he see's the dr. that he just doesn't feel good.  He's had a yearly heart echo done and also has undergone stress tests every other year.  Yesterday he went to his cardiologist for his yearly checkup, and now the dr tells my dad that they put too small of a valve in his heart.....he should've had a bigger one.  The doctor said the valve is too small and isn't letting the blood flow correctly through the heart, hence my dad isn't getting enough oxygen into his system, and that's causing him to experience shortness of breath all the time.  So my dad asked what now.....does he have to have open heart surgery again?..... and the dr said "well, there's a problem.  Your lungs aren't strong enough to undergo open heart surgery now; we can't do it."  With the valve not working right, and not enough oxygen going through his system for the past 8 years, it's caused his lungs to become too weak to withstand this type of a major surgery again.  The doctor told my dad that sooner, rather than later, his lungs are going to stop working all together.

My dad is really P.O.'d right now! He told the doctor he's been in to see him regularly, complaining ever since they put the valve in that he couldn't breath correctly, and now, 8 years later, they tell him the valve they put in was too small, and because of their screw up, he can't have open heart surgery again to replace the valve with a bigger one.  He's threatening to sue the doctor for malpractice right now.

I was going to tell him to go see another cardiologist, but my dad's current cardiologist is reputed to be the best one around where we live.  I can't believe they made this kind of a mistake, and now 8 years later, they're admitting they used too small of a valve to begin with but because of improper blood flow and not enough oxygen going to his lungs, there's nothing they can do now to fix it.  I'm ticked off at the doctor too; I can't understand why they waited this long to tell my dad they made a mistake, when he's been in to see this doctor every single year since his surgery complaining of the same symptons for the last 8 years.  furious

Wow, I'd be pissed too Ghost! I can't believe that there's nothing the doctor can do for him, or that he's the best in the area if he does stuff like that.

The doctor wrote a prescription for my dad to get oxygen tanks, but he told my dad this is only a temporary solution.

We're at a loss right now as to what to do.  My dad went to a pulmonary specialist 3 weeks ago where they ran different tests on my dad, and this is where his cardiologist got the diagnosis that my dad's lungs aren't working properly and are getting weaker.

I still want my dad to see a different cardiologist; get another opinion.

When my dad told me this yesterday, it reminded me so much of what we experienced with my mom when they discovered she had stage 5 cancer after she complained for 3 years of not feeling good and seeing a whole bunch of different doctors with none discovering what was wrong until it was too late to do anything for her.  cry

Sorry to hear that Ghost. Should we kick the doctor's butt? I wonder if they can give your father lung strengthening excercises. Maybe he can build his lung capacity and then try it again. I know it is dangerous, but maybe there is a slim hope.

Wow thats sad Ghost. Do you think that technology has changed enough that they just now know its better to use a bigger one? or did they truly just screw up? I know years ago they said that most people only lived on average 10 years after a surgery like that. Was it a tissue valve or mechanical?

Wow Ghost, that is horrible news. It's disturbing how many mistakes are made by doctors and hospitals.

It's particularly bad when a patient is telling them over and over for years that there's a problem and they're just dismissing it. I'd be beyond pi**ed.

Now there's a thought Fuzzy!  I think I'll tell my dad to call the pulmonary doctor, set up another appointment with him, and we'll ask him about that.....see if he thinks it could help build them up enough that he could undergo another surgery.

Thanks for that suggestion!

I feel sort of funny putting this in here now after Ghost's news, but this is the Wednesday thread so I guess it's thre right place.

I just gotta say I slept WONDERFULLY last night.  Lately I've been waking up every 20 or 30 minutes, then rolling over and falling asleep until the next 20 or 30 minutes passes.

But last night I slept like a baby.  I think I only woke up twice, once around 4 and again at 7, and the reason I woke up at 7 was my dog whining.

I knew I was starting to sleep better because the last few nights I've had a lot of dreams, but last night was the first night in awhile that I had a truly restful sleep.

I feel great today!  clap.gif

Now hopefully I can keep the good times rolling and keep getting decent sleep.

His is a mechanical one AC.  He didn't opt for the tissue one because the cardiologist said those only last 10 years, then you have to be opened up again and have it replaced.......my dad was 60 when they put the valve in, and the doctor told him it would be really risky to open him up again at 70 to repeat the surgery.  So my dad choose to have the mechanical valve, even though that means being on Coumadin for the rest of his life.

for a 60 year old I think the average life span is 7 years. I would see another heart doc....see what they say before getting a lawyer. If he want getting enough o2 right after surgery he wouldnt have been released. Its just to bad that they didnt listen to him before damage was done.

JR - glad you had a good night's sleep. But these guys are right, stop napping. And make sure you stop drinking the soda or caffiene beverages hours before bedtime.
