NEW YORK - Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" led Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for a seventh week on Thursday, tying the Beatles to become the longest-running No. 1 in the rock era for the singer's Capitol Records label.
The Fab Four ruled for seven weeks in 1964 with "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Perry was previously tied at No. 2 with the Knack's 1979 song "My Sharona."
If Perry's song can hang on for three more weeks, it will tie rapper Flo Rida's "Low" as the second longest-running No. 1 of 2008.
But challenges loom from R&B singer Chris Brown's "Forever," which rose one place to No. 2, and from his rumored girlfriend Rihanna's "Disturbia," which was up one to No. 3.
Another Rihanna song, "Take a Bow," fell two places to No. 4, with Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and Lil Wayne's "A Milli" holding at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall's "Dangerous" featuring Akon moved up a slot for the third straight week, to No. 7.
Riggs - you just mentioned that the Katy Perry album feels 80's to you. You're right - and there's a good reason for it! I know you're not a credit-reading person like I am, but you should know that a lot of the people behind the album (songwriters & producers) were all big 80's/early 90's people, such as:
Desmond Child Butch Walker (from Marvelous 3) Dave Steward (from Eurythmics) Cathy Dennis (you remember her hits, I'm sure.) Max Martin (wrote a lot of the Backstreet Boys hits)

Ah, I know and like the work of Desmond, Steward & Dennis.
When D & I were talking we were both saying we hoped she stays in that fun, pop vein and doesn't go more the Lily Allen direction. Her lyrics have gotten a bit much.
I could see Perry going that direction too, but I hope not.

Well, not if she works with these people again, she won't.
