Why I Love This Song...

Here's an idea for a thread- As there is now 5000 songs in the request system, there will be more variety in the playlist than ever! Many memories will come flooding back from hearing a song you haven't heard in years, but you remember loving. So- if you have a good memory that is sparked from hearing a song, why not share the story with us?

Cool thread.  I'm sure everyone has a special song or songs with their significant other, and my wife and I have several of those, but one song on the request list reminds me of another woman (don't tell my wife!).

It's 'Groovy Kind of Love' by Phil Collins.  It reminds me of my high school senior year girlfriend and prom date.  It was our song.  I'd say she is the second best woman I ever dated, my wife being by far the best of course!  Every time I hear that song I just stop dead and listen.  It reminds me of a simpler time I guess.  I also think it is a great remake, much better than the original version.  Anyway, my wife doesn't even know this, so this is the Community Forum's dirty little secret!

Don't worry murscclub your little secret is safe with us! I just hope your wife doesn't read over your shoulder like mine does.... Oh sorry Dear!!

The song I have in mind is Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, It reminds me of my wife and our life. Hey that rhymes! Plus she has long blonde hair.

Hey Sparky, how 'bout the version of Wonderful Tonight on the Live 24 Nights disk?  My wife and I used that as one our wedding dance songs - we love that version of the song.

Oh God...It's a good memory, but seems very awkward now that I think about it & am putting it into words...when I was younger, my Dad was taking my friend Colin & I to our first Major League baseball game & it was at Yankee Stadium ( I used to live in Jersey). We were both so excited, we had spent all day swimming at the pool, and then got dressed for a night game...we were both so full of soda & sugar we couldn't stop bouncing around in our seats in the car. Then Jermaine Stewart's "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" came over the radio, & Colin & I started screaming out the lyrics (much to the embarassment of my dad who was driving). We screamed out about 12 different songs on the way to the Ballpark, but that was the one I remember most. It was an awesome night. The Yankees won, & my friend & I passed out minutes after we got in the car to go home. Everytime I hear that song, I remember that night with my best friend & my first Baseball game, even if the lyrics themselves have no real meaning.

There is another song that has a similar type meaning. The song itself doesn't mean anything, but the memory it conjures up is very vivid. Lionel Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling". My dad was coming home from the airport, & my mom had to pick him up from Newark International ( ironically you had to take alot of the same streets to get there as you do to YAnkee stadium coming from NW NJ, so the memories are actually from a similiar stretch of highway) My mom had to bring my sister & I along, because we were too young to stay home alone, & it was well after 1AM. I don't know why it's such a vivid memory, maybe it was because we were so young & staying up so late, But everytime I hear that song, I think about going to the airport...not really a heartwarming story, but a strong memory from a more innocent time for me.

*edit* Oh Man, I just heard Joe jackson's "Steppin out" & this is another song, along with the linoel richie song that I think of as Airport Songs because of that night...I even remember the building we were passing when it was playing ( the Valley Fair shopping center) *god that was 15-18 years ago...I remember it so well...ah memories*edit*

Just about any song from John Cougar's "Americal Fool" album reminds me of my Jr. year football season. One of the Seniors had a huge boom box and they'd play that tape over and over on the bus traveling to away games and almost every day in the locker room. I can't hear any of those songs without thinking about that time, the good friends, "the big play", etc.

Also, I remember I liked Re-flex "The Politics of Dancing". I had just bought my first pickup and installed the under-dash Sparkomatic cassette player when that song was popular. When I hear that song, I always think of that pickup, the feeling of it being mine, having bought it with my own work and 4-H money, etc. Man, I drove the wheels off of that thing . . . there was a girl then too . . . I still have her, but the pickup is long gone.

maybe this gets covered in the "playing now on freeze frame radio" thread, but if not- here it is- what song(s) do you KEEP REQUESTING whenever you can and why do you love it (them?) Any good memories to share about the song(s)?

Star, I started a thread a while back about karaoke!

I've done this song a few times, but mostly I'm a crooner.

Elvis etc.

Sparks-

Apparently there is some kind of trend about recycling threads so I'll give you the honor..

bring it back.  I know it will do well especially w/ the hams we have around here (Dylan).

You guys have got to start threads that can be answered in under an hour!  SOOOO many songs, but here are some that are at the top.  Depeche Mode's "Somebody" is the song for my wife and I, and after 14 years it has a lot of meaning because our lives have grown so much.  Whenever I hear it, I remember where we started and how far we've come.  "Always Somthing There to Remind Me" and "Sister Christian" bring up old fling memories, and then I REALLY appreciate my wife!

"Princes of the Universe" by Queen has a lot of geek/Gen Con sentimentality for me.  It was the background music for a stunt we pulled.
