updated 11 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Former teen star Mackenzie Phillips has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance after she allegedly was found carrying drugs at Los Angeles International Airport.
Airport police Sgt. Jim Holcomb said the co-star of the old sitcom One Day At a Time was arrested Wednesday.
The 48-year-old Phillips was heading to New York when she failed to pass a security screening and a secondary search turned up a small amount of cocaine and heroin in her possession, he said.
Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips, the late leader of the singing group the Mamas and the Papas. She has struggled with drug addiction in the past and was fired from One Day At a Time, which ran from 1975 to 1984, for drug-related causes.
She went on to star in the Disney Channel series So Weird and has made intermittent TV appearances in recent years.

The 43-year-old Knight was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and battery domestic violence.
Police responding to a report of a car hitting a curb near the Las Vegas Strip say they found Knight standing over his longtime girlfriend with a knife in his hand.
Police say the woman tried to run from the car, but Knight grabbed her.
He's accused of having the drugs Ecstasy and hydrocodone when he was arrested.
Knight's lawyers, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, declined to comment.
Knight is co-founder of the hip-hop label Death Row Records.

I can't believe that after all these years, she hasn't figured out that trying to take that stuff through airport security really isn't a good idea. SHEESH! I know it kills braincells, but COME ON. If you can't take a tweezer in carry on, what would make one think of trying to sneak in the blow?!?!?!
