Hurricane thread 2008

So I am thinking maybe DS is gonna get some Gustav rain?

Our weathermen are tracking Hannah and trying to scare everyone. No one wants to work cause they are busy tracking the storm and thinking we will have Friday off. I hate living in this area. Hugo was bad and we need to be concrened. But get to work.

Ok my rant is done!

At least Gustav was not so bad as advertized that it might be. I heard this morning that oil actually went down $4 per barrel since there wasn't the anticipated damage on the refineries.

Does kind of look like a bad line up... so many hurricanes or potentials in such a short interval. I guess we will have to wait and see what Hanna has for us.

you're right, Ruby... Gustav rain will be here by tomorrow along with a cold front from the north also bringing rain. We're expecting around 4" in the Tulsa metro...

Hope Hanna goes easy on y'all!

It's been fun watching the weather for hurrricanes for the first time in my life. But of course I'm safely inland so it's just a matter of a couple days of heavy rain for me.

If I were on the coast I probably wouldn't think it was so much fun. no.gif

Man, that's a nice benefit of hurricane season, the occasional freebie days off.

In Wisconsin we never close for storms other than really, REALLY bad snowstorms. Even that only happens about once every two or three years.

You guys get to be closed for really, really bad snow? We don't get that. My management's perspective is that I have a 4X4, so I can make it to work... and I can bring a few people with me. We occassionally get a pass for severe ice, but it is rare.

Not really, we have to make up the days. So do the school kids.

True, true... we are 24 X 7 X 365, so shutting down is not really an option. At worst, I just have to report to a building that has a back up generator. hmm.gif

Yeah, but I'm talking like BLIZZARD conditions just before your shift.

If we get 12 inches of snow usually at most a second or third shift MIGHT be called off at a few companies.

Employers in Wisconsin generally take the attitude "we don't care if you get here in your car, an ambulance, or a hearse, just get here!"

Sounds like Kansas... the only acceptable excuse for not making it to work is if you actually die on the way to work... but only if you arrange for a live employee to cover your projects and meetings before you die.
