You heard that we had a terrorist attack here on American Soil.
I was in my hotel room getting ready for a meeting with the buyer at Wal-Mart. I was ironing my shirt when they said a plane hit the wtc. immediate speculation on the station i was watching was that it was a small craft. Then the video footage started coming in from the carnage, the second plane. I thought to myself, "My God, we are under attack."
I was still the facility manager at the shop when this happened. I remember being scared and sad. I wanted to listen to every report that came on the radio but because of the field I work in I couldn't. I had to switch all the radios to playing whatever cd's we had so that our consumers would not become upset or paranoid. Then when I got home I couldn't take me eyes off the news.

I was here at my shop working. I had the radio on and they broke in with a live CNN feed. Same thing here, first they said a small craft hit one of the towers. I thought "Sheesh how do you not see the towers?" and went on working.
A while later, they changed it to a passenger jet and I went from "Oh man, that's too bad" to "Holy crap!". Then they started talking that it was possibly a hijacked plane and done on on purpose. Then the 2nd plane hit. I remember just standing here leaning against my workbench listening to the radio with goosebumps. After about an hour of that, I closed up and went home and watched on TV.
I was outside running marching band drill my sophomore year of highschool. When my instructor got the news he rushed us all in and made us sit down and watch t.v. he didn't tell us what was going on. All of my teachers brought t.v.'s into our classrooms that day and we just watched because all of the schools were locked down. I remember my psychology teacher breaking down and crying, our after school activities were all cancelled so we could go home and be with our families. Nobody really spoke that day at all, you could hear a pin drop in the halls. Everything around us just kind of stopped. There wasn't really a break between classes they all just ran into the next because everyone was watching what was going on.
I was at work, and at that time cnn had just started letting people sign up for email Breaking News alerts, so I hadn't done that yet. Just had my earphones on, listening to a cd, working. Pretty soon I got up and saw just me and one other guy in the office. We must have been the only 2 who didn't hear the news right away.
I went towards the lunchroom and saw everyone was in the gym- by the tvs. I went in, saw what was happening. One of the managers was standing behind me sweating and he said to me "the Sears Tower is next....". I went back to get the other guy who didn't know about it & said "Steve, come to the gym, you won't belive this."
Riggs and I were to go take some friends to Miller Park that night for their first visit. We still got together at Riggs house to watch tv and grill out and be thankful we were all friends & able to be together that day.

Excellent point you make, JD. As horrible as the reality of it all was, it was so much better having people around that you cared about. That was back in the day when Pambo's desk was right across from mine. We didn't talk to each other a lot that day as I recall. Mostly we were on the phone with family members and watching the news on our little TVs. I do remember saying to her, "This sucks unbelieveably. Momma just called wigging out. She wants me to come over to her house since we are in a building with a large "drop plane here" sign on the top of it. I just heard Lyndon is refusing to leave the NY switch site which is only 5 blocks away from all that, and I think I might puke." She just gave me the stunned and tired look for a second and said, "You can't leave. We can't leave. What if they need us? And if you puke in front of me, I'm gonna kick your ass."
