Man, I just saw a lady on the CNN live web coverage that I wanna slap.

A reporter is on the shore at Galveston. A lady and three kids are standing there taking pictures and watching the surf slam against the sea wall.

The reporter asked her why she's there.

Well, I've lived here all my life and I've seen many of these. I just wanted to come down and see how bad it really is . . . . (with a little fear shown on her face) Its worse than I thought it would be.

He asked why she didn't leave.

Well, I can't leave . . . My home is here, my kids are here, my animals are here. I can't just leave it behind.

I SO WANTED TO REACH THROUGH THE SCREEN AND SLAP HER SILLY!

Get your kids out of there you stupid B*$%^.

If they live through it, I think CPS should take her kids away from her for endangering them.

Honestly, what does she think she's gonna do? Is she going to stand guard at the door of her house and tell the water to leave? Who does she think she is that she is going to be able to do anything against the storm?

And that STUPID comment, "I can't leave, my kids are here". Get the kids out of there.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

no.gif She sounds like a good candidate for natural deselection. I feel bad for the kids. They truly deserve better.

Hurricane-driven waves pound a beachfront structure about noon Friday on Galveston Island, Texas.

Ike is 900 miles wide, measuring the cloud cover at its widest point. On Friday, its tropical storm-force winds extended up to 275 miles -- the length of the Texas coastline -- from its center, for a total reach of about 550 miles.

Those facts didn't seem to bother the beer drinkers at a bar and grill called Noah's Ark in Bacliff, Texas, a small town between Houston and Galveston that is expected to be Ike's bulls eye.

Lifelong resident Steven Alexander dismissed all warnings about Ike. "It ain't nothing but a little wind and rain," he said, saying that he's done nothing to prepare for the storm.

Charles Slaydon, who repairs and builds boat masts, joked that the storm would be good for business because it could "break every one of those masts."

With his pet parrot, Gracie, on his shoulder, Slaydon acknowledged that it's dangerous to ride out a storm of Ike's magnitude. "There's a lot of people who don't think this storm is as bad as it's going to be," he said. "But it's a bad boy."

Hundreds of North Carolina consumers
are reporting gas stations have unfairly increased prices as Hurricane
Ike barrels toward the Gulf Coast. Attorney General Roy Cooper said Friday that his office has received more than 425 price gouging complaints.
Cooper said some of the most jarring allegations have come from the
western part of the state. Consumers there have reported stations
selling gas for as much as $5.99 a gallon.

The attorney general can sue merchants if state officials find that gas
stations have excessively inflated prices. Cooper said he will
investigate consumers' complaints. Earlier today, Gov. Mike
Easley declared a state of "abnormal market disruption" and triggered
the state's anti-gouging law.

I get so tired of the government being blamed for the plight and stupidity of people. this country was never set up for big government, it was power to the states. now we live in a society of somebody did it, but nobody wanted to, everyone is to blame, but someone is stupid etc.

i get so frustrated when people fail to take any ownership.

I filled up Thursday night because a) I was down to like and eighth of a tank and needed to get home b) I figured that the jerks who run the gas stations would probably try the price gouging just like they did after 9/11. Didn't want to have to deal with it.
