wow I was not kidding about infestation.

I'm not even close to downtown & this infestation was happening at lunch.....I am maybe 5 miles outta downtown at least.....

Downtown abuzz with flying bugs

Notice anything unusual in parts of downtown Milwaukee today?

Try flying insects.

Swarms of them seemed to come from nowhere around the lunch hour. In the case of one restaurant on the near south side, the flying insects sent diners indoors.

"We had an unseasonably cool week and an unseasonably warm day, and then things explode," said Don Quintenz, director of education for the Schlitz Audubon Center in Bayside.

"Aphids and flying ants are both out up here," Quintenz added.

He said aphids are small with prominent wings, and "when they go through their nuptial flights, they'll be on you."

How long will the flights last?

"It's all weather dependent," Quintenz said. "You get cool weather setting in, you won't see any tomorrow. If it stays like this, they'll fly for a week."

The bugs are the only thing I don't like about Wisconsin...oh yeah, and the tornados...those kinda suck as well.

ahh you are bringing back the fond memories (or repressed I'm not sure which yet) of the wonderful family vacations up to a cabin in Northern Wisconsin with my grandparents...I used to come home covered head to toe in bites. I'm fairly positive I should have bought stock in calamyne (sp?) lotion.

The skeeters up there are INSANE. I have family in Michigan... went to a reunion one summer. I was sitting in a lawn chair, reeking of Off, and actually holding a lit citronella candle in my lap. I could hear the mosquitos LAUGHING at me as they were exanguinating me.

Okay. I NEVER went on the family vacations to Wisconsin, but the mosquitos find me anywhere I go. I can sit on my porch in Kansas & get bit. And exsanguinated. And nobody else gets bit at all.

I hated the MAYFLIES in Wisconsin. Sure they only live a minute but they are the creepiest looking bug ever.
