Aftermath Saturday

Good morning guys.

I was up pretty late watching hurricane Ike.  I sure hope things don't turn out as bad as they looked.

I'm still astounded at how high gas prices have gotten over all of this.  The said Tennessee had stations at 7 bucks a gallon!

Yeesh.

I just read that Ike weakened to a Category 1 when it came ashore, but looking at the photos, it still caused a lot of damage.  A lot of people didn't heed the mandatory evacuation order and decided during the height of the storm they were then going to evacuate.  I don't know how many were able to be rescued, but would assume not many during the height of the storm.

I wound up watching until 4 AM and they were mostly letting people fend for themselves.

It's infuriating. They were talking to idiots that weren't evacuating, saying "oh, they tell us they're gonna be bad and then nothing happens". Now first responders have to put their own lives at risk to save these idiots.

They were telling people that stayed behind they needed to write their name and social security number on their forearms in marker to make their bodies easier to identify. Even that wasn't enough to scare these morons out of town.

I heard one story on FOX about some family who stayed. The water came up fast and they wound up barely getting out alive, but they lost their dog that they were holding and watched him get swept out to sea cry.gif

I realize it's a natural disaster, but when you are told to leave and you choose not to, then change your mind and want to be rescued, you should have to pay for a rescue.  Maybe if they were forced to pay a rescue fee they would leave when they were first told to evacuate.

I agree. People were saying it's an "inconvenience" to evacuate. Awwww, TFB! Imagine the inconvenience the rescue personnel have to go through to save your sorry rear.

They should absolutely pay for their rescue and quite frankly if they don't survive I don't feel sorry for them. I DO however feel sorry for their kids and pets that had parents and owners too stupid to get out of the way of impending danger.

Me too; kids and pets rely on adults to protect them from danger, yet some of these people put them right into the thick of it.  Very sad situation for them to be in.  I guess the people that choose to stay value material things more than life.  cry

And another thing that ticks me off is that most shelters won't allow you to bring your pet.  I realize shelters are for people, but to pet owners, their pets are a member of the family.  How can you leave your pet behind to fend for itself?  I would never be able to do it.  My dog isn't just a "dumb animal"....she's another family member that needs to be looked after.

Most of them won't.  You have a small dog, some will allow a small dog like your's or cats.  I have a 100 lb. Lab....no way would they allow her in a shelter.

Remember after Katrina??.....all the pets they rescued and how many help came too late for them.  They weren't allowed to go with their owners to a shelter.

I'm here trying to figure out what I'm gonna do today. The girl has equestrian competition this afternoon. The weather does not look promising. I'm sure if it becomes unsafe they will not compete. I really do not wish to sit out in the rain asking for a cold. Also at the last practice we attended, I was barely acknowledged so I really don't feel like I HAVE to be there. I do enjoy seeing the events but not sure how much I would enjoy in the rain. My husband already assumed I was gonna stay home and work on my cards. He just left to go purchase what he needs to hang my additional lighting. We bought the light and bulbs last night but did not realize it would need more. When he gets back he is gonna call the girl and see if they have called it off yet. I hope so. It would make it easier. By the time she would ride, they are calling for heavy rain.

It seems that all the idiots are out and about in the rain. They put my husband in an awful mood. He called the girl and she said that they would not cancel competition unless there was lightning. It is only raining- a lot. We are under a flood watch. He is already soaked from his trip to the store and he feels he has to go because he can't go next weekend. He told me not to go. He worked on my new light but I told him not to worry about hanging it. I have other things I can do today.

Morning, all. I too was up til the wee hours watching the Ike progression. The "rescue me" people who had the choice and the means to evacuate really irritate me too. They should be billed for the cost of their personal rescue. It's not like the people who have to go save them don't have lives and families to worry about. Honestly I was also watching it to try to get a feel for what my job might be like over the next few weeks. I'm always on the "first call out" list for network disasters for my company.

Need to get me moving. I have lots of errands to tend to today. Hopefully it will stop raining here for a while. I have a lovely little stream running across my basement. hmm.gif Oh well.

We had Runza for lunch. They have some new burgers. Mrs Web approved.

Got three out of four steps done in one server upgrading. I'll do the last one later today or this evening.

Need to mix up some bug spray and go around the house as they are starting to try to push inside now.

Huskers play at 6:00pm.

Go Big Red.

I got the bugs sprayed.

Then I got the sewing machine out and fixed the boy's kite, cut off and hemmed his new jammy pants that were too long, and fixed a hem on one of his t-shirts.

Three hours to Huskers. Set your alarm clocks so you don't forget.

That will be close. You might be subject to the end of it. AND, I know you don't want to watch the end because you're not used to watching such exciting sports.

Hey, I am just chillin now. Had to take Ruby to the vet for shots this morning, she is up to 32 lbs. Came home to drop her off and pick up E and we went to Target to buy a wedding shower gift and then to the library. Next we stopped at the grocery store for a few things and then to McD's they have Oz toys again! Home to wrap the gift and eat and then off to the shower. My girlfriend is a cop and she got called on a home invasion at 3 am and then she was heading home when there was a murder, they let her leave the crime scene for 30 minutes for her shower, she was an hour late already and the party was at 2 pm! I felt bad, but we had a nice time anyway. Stoopid criminals!

So Web, who's winning the game?  Hope Nebraska is kicking butt and taking names!!  biggrin

I believe kicking butt would be a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.  Names would be on the back of their jerseys.  No need to take em.

Nebraska is just a game to watch until Wisconsin plays Fresno State.  Now that's football! smile

With their names on the back of their jerseys it makes taking names that much easier.  nod.gif
