What's that herb that boosts your mood?

Does anyone remember?  Is it St. John's Wart?

I think I need to start taking some whatever it is.  Does anyone know which one I'm talking about?

Do you know if it actually works?

lol.

Seriously, no one knows?

It's not like I'm depressed, I just know there's SOME herb out there to keep your mood up and feel like I could use that in my system when I'm feeling a little anxious about stuff.

Oh well, I guess I'll search the web for it. Google is pretty good at getting answers for long winded questions.

St John's Wart is something they recommend for depression instead of medicine. I took it a long time ago. I can't say that I remember if it helped or not. I didn't take it long

Ah alright, thanks guys. I've never been a big believer in those things anyway. But I guess I was hoping someone on the forum would have tried them and been willing to give them a ringing endorsement.

I guess I'll stick with my usual method of crawling into the fetal position under the kitchen sink when anxiety hits smile.gif

Right, it's supposed to help, and right, it's debatable.  My doctor said that you have to exercise in the morning for 30 minutes to raise the seratonin levels, which makes you happier.  Although I don't have plans to stop my exercise plan, I still have my bad days.  Right now I'm debating when or whether to go back to the doctor about it.

It is St. John's Wart, JR.  But, that herb also affects the effectiveness of birth control, so I've never tried it.  I've also heard mimosa (not the orange juice and champagne kind) is supposed to help mood, but I haven't been able to find it to try it.

Eh, maybe I'll try some St. Johns Wart. I thought that's what it was. nod.gif

Exercise definitely helps, but you gotta be in at least a good enough mood to get yourself to go exercise :)

No you don't.  I'm not in a good mood first thing in the morning, yet somehow I'm doing it.

y'all crack me up!

jr, my daughter has been taking Mood Positive 5-HTP , and says she can tell a difference in her mood and sleep pattern. iHerb.com has it for a good price, but you can also check your local wal-mart...

I've taken St. John's Wart before. I'm not so sure that it elevated my mood, but it probably did make me feel a little more relaxed. Not sure if it was the placebo effect, but I'd supposed I did perceive some benefits from it.

about a decade ago I was outta my skull. Became a member of the prozac nation for a year. I would say it did help. The causes for the depression didn't go away, it just didn't have to knock me over as bad as it did each day. It wasn't a mood elevator, it just prevented sinking into a bad place.

JR: as a LMT I tell you that if you want a boost go to a health food store and buy essential oils. St. Johns Wort was proven not to work.

If you really want to boost your mood, ask the health food store to show you a bottle that you can fit with a roller. Use Jojoba oil as your medium. 50 ml in the bottle then add:

10 drops of bergamont
10 drops coriander
7 drops of jasmine
7 drops of pettigrain
6 drops neroli
5 drops of black pepper
5 drops lemon scented eucalyptus

Put a little on your arm and inhale deeply four times.

for a really quick fix, put about three or four drops of peppermint oil in your palms, rub them together and inhale with your hands in a cupping formation over your mouth and nose.

be careful not to get in your eyes.

I have a bunch of recipies if you want.

I think the RELAXED is more what I'm looking for anyway.

I'm almost always in a good mood.  Even if I'm feeling anxiety ridden I'm still usually cheerful.
