Knee Surgeon APPT

My physician confirmed I have two cartilage tears in my left knee.

My knee surgeon isnt available to see me until October 9th.

I have heard alot of good things about him, so I am willing to wait.

The fun begins.

You have been hobbling around for a month, what is another two and a half weeks?

Keep rehabbing. Build the muscles and strenght around the knee before surgery. That will help you heal a little faster and may not be as painful.

Oooooooooooooooooo. I forgot. Wait until you have holes in your knee. They make such nice scars. I have four. Normally it is three, but since I had tears on both sides, I have an extra hole. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

A good surgeon is worth the wait. Good luck with that.

Nothing weight-bearing until after they stitch you together. I would have to strain to think about things I had to do. I believe there were leg lifts involved. Lying down, front, back, inside, outside kind of thing. If I think of anything I will gladly share. I bet I have my file at home somewhere too.

Oooo ooo ooo...sit in a chair and drag yourself around a room using only the bad knee...that one is fun. Walk a lot. Sit on a wall for as long as you can and then go for a little longer 5 times. Swimming is also good, and water aerobics (if you are into that type of thing) biggrin.gif

I tore my ACL in both knees and these were all things that I had to do before my surgeries...if my weak knees could take it, trust me yours can.

Whatever you do get your knee as strong as possible before the surgery...it cuts healing time down dramatically. I was supposed to be out of basketball for 6-8 months after my surgeries...I ended up returning after 4 months. I'm a stud though.

See? Sometimes I know stuff. And I would watch out for Suzie on the court.

And Suzie - you rock! Oh, sorry. You are a stud! wink

Well my business tends to take me IN court these days...so Suzie if I see you there, it means you had a bad day...if I see you ON the court...I dare ya to take me to my left.  He he he.

Fuzzy, I KNOW you know things.

For the record, you BOTH rock. smile

Hopefully the wait will go fast for you, Dylan.

Will you have to be in the hospital more than a day?

And as any good basketball player would do, knowing you have a bum left knee, she will bust to her left, leaving you curled up in a ball on the floor after you knee buckles and will finish her easy layup before she comes over to help you up. I will just sit there and giggle. Then I will get the ice pack.

Easy in/easy out. It is an outpatient surgery. With a morning surgery, he'll be home by noon.

Okay...only one way to settle it. wink

Wow, I knew it was a lot better than it used to be but I didn't realize they had it down to outpatient now.

Insurance companies are trying to make EVERYTHING outpatient surgery now.

Bring it on Dylan. What time will you be on the court awaiting my arrival? I am ready for you. Bad left knee to bad left knee. But, if I take you to my left, I end up using my good knee to push off and you just fall down. Yes, I am that evil.

You forget, the defender has some say in where you go.

I have quick hands...so I see a lot of turnovers in your future.  biggrin

 Unfortunately you are right Mema.

The one bright spot in all this is it is duty related.  Its on the Sheriff's dime.

Ah, but you forget. I am a goalkeeper. Who is to say that your hands are faster than mine? Turnovers are unacceptable.

Game on!

If there is a blessing in this experience for you, that would definitely be it. The whole workman's comp thing is a good deal where it comes to injuries. You almost always come out with better care than if you get injured on your own time when it is just on your own medical insurance from what I have seen.

We probably don't get near as much snow as you do, but it kind of depends. The weather patterns have been so weird these last few years. The last two years had quite a bit of snow for us. Probably in the neighborhood of 2.5 feet over maybe 3 months. Most of the really bad weather tends to either go just north or south of us, but generally misses the KC area.

yep, my husband had this done too and I had to be the driver.

note- you will need help initially. Don't try to be a hero. My husband tried that and about fell into the bathtub because he did not want to wake me to help him the first night he had to use the bathroom furious Oh and for Pete's sake take the meds given! Oh and we ended up buying a really big ice pack from the rehab place. It covered the whole knee and was extremely helpful!

The at home exercises are very important too. Hubby failed to do them all the time and then would pay dearly when he DID do them.

Yeah. Suzieb's ACL reconstructions were both outpatient. She came home with drains & staples and all kinds of other junk. She has 2 of those nifty ice chest/ice pack thingys. We also have 2 sets of crutches & 2 humongous knee braces.

She was a brave little soldier but her mommy took very good care of her. Dad was too grossed out but all the nasty...but mommy wasn't. She has a very good mommy.
