Speaking of, where are you going? Are you staying with your mom or sis, or is your landlord giving you your old apartment back and kicking the baby out?
Large, metropolitan areas always charge more for insurance due to lots of accidents taking place in the city, theft from vehicles, and car thieves. Although since you're driving a mini van, I think we can safely say you won't need to worry about it being stolen.
lol, I bet I could talk the landlord into kicking out the baby.
The first month or two I'll be staying at Mom's. She's a nervous wreck right now trying to clean the basement and attic out before my Grandmother moves in with her later this fall. So it'll be nice to be able to give her a hand. We have a lot of junk to go through and take to the dump. The house is a mess and the attic is finished (it's where my room and my my parents bedrooms are) but unusable right now because they've used it primarily for storage.
My parents were pack rats. I hate that. I'm looking forward to taking many MANY van loads of crap to the dump.
Meanwhile, my sister has offered me her second bedroom, which is where I'll stay when I need a real bed (as opposed to a couch) or once Grandma moves into my Mom's.
Once I get my Moms house in shape I'm hoping to start looking for work in northern WI, about an hour away from Milwaukee. If I can find something there I'll move there too.
If I settle on a job in the city then I'll look for an apartment in the city. I expect to be back in my own place no later than early spring, hopefully sooner. A lot will depend on the job opportunities I can find. I know this time of year it starts getting tougher as people put filling new positions off until after the new year a lot of times.

You don't think I'll get carjacked for my hot roddin' mini van?
It really is because you're moving back into a large city JR. Detroit rates are higher than what I pay here in Saginaw, yet Saginaw rates are higher than Bay City or Midland's. Sorry it's going to cost you more money though.
I went from 64 a month to 96 to be exact. That's huge :(
To be honest, I carry a 1000 deductible, the replacement value of the van will drop like a rock the next few years. Once those two points are within about 3,000 I'll drop collision again.
THis is why I like used cars. Without collision I was paying 26 a month for liability.
