The Obama campaign has just announced that Bruce Springsteen will play a free - acoustic - set on the Parkway Saturday afternoon. The stated purpose is to assist voter registration and volunteer efforts, and, indeed, to get "preferred" tickets you have to go to an Obama campaign office and sign up to volunteer. General admission is available via the web.

And did we say an acoustic set? So no E Street Band. Bummer.

For extra credit, tell us who will provide McCain with his musical theme?

Here's excerpts from the Obama release:

"...Bruce Springsteen an acoustic set at a rally on the Ben Franklin Parkway...

...preferred tickets must be picked up at campaign offices.

The concert will take place on the Saturday before Pennsylvanias voter registration deadline on Monday. 

Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 20th and 22nd Streets.

Gates open at 2:00 and the program will begin at 3:30.

For access to the best viewing area, preferred tickets will be distributed to those who sign up to volunteer. This can be done beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Obama-Biden campaign for change offices listed below.

General admission tickets can be secured at the following website: pa.barackobama.com/springsteen

cant argue that the price is right to see bruce.

I was just thinking that while the talking heads were on, that david byrne is coming to milwaukee, seats starting at $60.

I saw him maybe 3 yrs ago for maybe $40?

glad I saw the BIG BOYS while I did. I aint payin that kinda money again. In a way its good, it makes me want to get out and discover local acts for $5-10 a show...

I have room for a few guests. I am sure it will be crazy crowded down there. Plus Bruce likes to ramble about politics at his shows. So I hear anyway.

With traffic, probably an hour's drive. The city always has tough traffic. I am out in the suburbs.

I have no intention of going. I do know it will be a zoo. Since he kind of lives next to us, it wouldn't be a long drive for him. He can just cross over the one bridge and it will take him right into the city and where he needs to be.

I just saw the Springsteen is playing here in MI on Monday at the Obama rally at Eastern MI University.  Billy Joel will be joining Bruce in New York City on Oct. 16th.
