Here. I'm very tired. It was a late night. It was one of those nights where my husband decided to start talking to me in bed. He does that. He lets things bother him for so long and then brings it up in bed. Oy. Nothing to do with me although I got upset. It was about the upcoming heart surgery for his step-dad.
After work we need to go close his Citizen's Bank account. It was just a savings account and he didn't pay attention to it. Apparently they deduct $12 every 3 months for maintenance. Bye! Bye! That's such crap! He just used it to keep his hunting savings money in there. I guess he can put it in a different account.

Then we need to go to Kohl's so I can spend a gift card I got last year hmm

Woo, I had an account they did that to too, but by time I found out, there wasn't any money left. It was at a credit union, and I was just keeping a little money in there to keep the account open.

Yesterday, we had some people doing some shirts for their scouts, and they couldn't get the artwork right. After working on it for a week and now that there's no time left, they finally figured out that they couldn't get me the artwork they wanted. I stayed late working on it to get what would work for the screenprinting and the design they wanted.

Now the first call before we were even technically open this morning was them wanting changes! And I've got other urgent items that need to be done this morning.

And I have no coffee.

Enter my office at your own risk.

Why so glum, chum?  I would think a mini shopping spree would put a big smile on your face.  Like this ------> biggrin.gif

Morning everyone.

Not much to report today.  Just checking in.  I'm meeting up with an aunt of mine in a little bit to go walking.  We're both trying to start a walking regimine, so we figured doing it together would get us to stick to it.

Then I got a lot to do at my Mom's house again, so I'll head over there.  It's already really taking shape.  I think we'll get it done in time for my Grandma to move in.

At first I was worried ol' Grandma would be sleeping on top of boxes of junk.  nod.gif

I hope everyone has a great day!

oh hello nerd.gif

we did boot camp again last night- it was supposed to be abs night. But I had trouble isolating my ab muscles. leg lifts, lift and twists etc. what really got sore were my hip muscles.

at work today, we have a chance to meet with financial planners who will go over our stuff and come up with a plan for free. This would otherwise cost like $400 if one did it on their own. I already have a financial planner and plan, but hey, its like getting a second opinion for free. So I was up early getting this info together.

now I must head off to work shortly to be at our weekly interdepartmental bitch session by 9.

because I hate clothes shopping and you can tell by the fact that the card is that old. It won't really be a spree either. If I get what I need then it will probably be ate up with 2 items and there will still be more that I need. I need stuff like new jeans, belt etc. But my heart is craving boots- lol

That's the one thing I hate about getting a gift card, I always know it's just opening the door to me spending my own money when I go well over what the card is worth hmm.gif

Oh and i think we will be getting our Christmas money from my mother-in-law this weekend so we are gonna go get that wireless router next week some time. We have tried the wireless from the apartment at it blows. Probably because we are an end apartment so we struggle to get the signal.

Then we can start working on getting this dance show started. My time will be a little crazier than I expected though since my in-laws won't be able to leave on time for Arizona due to the surgery. They will need our help for awhile.

CSU classes in session today after gun on campus causes overnight lockdown
Staff reports
Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Classes will be held as scheduled on Charleston Southern University's campus in North Charleston Tuesday after two people were arrested in connection with a report of a gun on campus, according to a university press release posted on the school's Web site.

According to the release, campus security received a call that there was a person on campus with a gun late Monday night. They notified the North Charleston Police and put the campus on lockdown.

Students were notified using the school's emergency response system.

Police found two suspects and arrested them and the lockdown ended shortly after 1 a.m. today.

Apparently one of our basketball players roommates came up missing $300 and he came on campus with a gun to find the rest of the basketball team to see who had taken his money. It was scary though, we just kept getting phone calls- gun on campus, campus on lock down, arrest made. UGH! Tonight is ballet and then the first of many PTA meetings with little E. Fuzzy Ruby has had diarrhea since yesterday too. OH JOY! Well gonna try to work now!

Morning.

I have been trying to get in here for an hour now to say hi. Been that kind of morning. But the good news is that the software people made some adjustments and my reports seem to be up, running and correct. Now, if I could just get billing to quit screwing things up.

Sunny and chilly here this morning.

I think these things are better settled with a baseball bat. Sure, assault is assault, but bringing a baseball bat to the university rather than A GUN seems to be less of an issue...no.gif

Yeah JD it is very scaryhmm What are teens doing with guns and thinking that solves anything. This was his first semester and he was from Alabama. Sad though cause his parents sent him here obviously to give him a chance.

Hey JR - were your new friends trying to follow you to WI?

Flight of the Penguins How do you airlift hundreds of stranded birds?

A rescued penguin in Brazil. Click image to expand.A rescued penguin in Brazil

More than a thousand juvenile Patagonian penguins have washed up on the northern shores of Brazil this year for reasons scientists have yet to comprehend fully. Over the weekend, hundreds of the stranded birds were airlifted to the southernmost tip of the country and released into the South Atlantic Ocean, close to their native territory. How exactly do you get that many penguins on a plane?

You put them in crates, 23 birds to a box. On Friday, the Brazilian government's environmental authority loaded 399 Magellanic penguins onto a C-130 Hercules transport plane on loan from the Air Force. The penguins left from a marine-life treatment center in Salvador, in the northern state of Bahia, where most of them had been living for the past two months. (Some 70 birds joined them from a treatment center in Vitoria; they were transported in the cargo hold of a commercial flight.) Before boarding the military plane, the penguins were fed, watered, given antifungal medication, and tagged with bands for future identification. Then they were flown down to another rehabilitation center in the southern city of Pelotas. Accompanying them on the 5.5 hour flight were a handful of military personnel and approximately 10 veterinarians and biologists from various environmental organizations.

On Saturday, after an overnight stay in the Pelotas centerwhere they were fed and watered once againthe penguins were placed back in the crates, lifted onto large trucks, and driven down to the beach, where a movable pen had been set up. Most of the penguins were then transferred into the pen and herded into the sea. (A few dozen were kept back due to medical concerns, though all the birds survived the flight.) You can watch a video of the beach release here.

Many of the penguins that washed ashore up north perished before they could be returned home. Representatives for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, one of the primary NGOs involved in the airlifting, estimate that half of the 1,600 penguins found in the Bahia region since July were already dead by the time they washed ashore; another 300 died in rehabilitation. The remaining birds were treated for emaciation, anemia, and worm infestations over the course of several months. Before they were allowed to board the Hercules plane this weekend, birds had to be given a clean bill of health by IFAW veterinariansthis involved checking their weight and the condition of their lungs, mouth, feet, and eyes as well as making sure their feather covers were still waterproof. Roughly 100 birds that didn't pass inspection remain at the Salvador center, where they will continue to be cared for until they can be released.

This weekend's flight was the largest penguin airlift in Brazilian history, but the largest penguin airlift ever took place in 2000, when 10,000 to 15,000 birds were transported to clean water after a massive oil spill near Cape Town, South Africa. Other, more pedestrian animals have also been rescued in large numbers by plane: After Hurricane Katrina, Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens and his wife, Madeleine, paid $50,000 to charter a Continental Airlines flight to take 100 cats and dogs to safety in California. In 2006, 300 cats and dogs orphaned by the Israel-Hezbollah conflict were flown from Lebanon to Las Vegas in a special Emirates cargo plane.

Hi all.  We had a bit of excitement at work today.  Our offices are located in the middle school and today was the random drug check day; cops came in with the K-9 drug sniffing dogs, did a sweep through the school and parking lots.  Today they found dope in 3 of the kids lockers, two cars that were parked in one of the parking lots (parents that were at the school seeing the principal about their child's behavior) and in the staff lot were I park they found a kilo of coke in someone's trunk.  BUSTED!!!!  He works in the finance department.  I don't know him, but from what I've heard he's always carrying drugs in his car.  We all know the K-9 units come through at least once a month.  Guess he never bothered to read the handbook where it talks about "zero tolerance" procedures.  What an idiot!!!  Of course, with this taking place in the "elite" township school district, it probably won't even make the news. hmm If this happened in the city school district, it'd be plastered all over the place.

Ruby, glad to hear they got the guy before anything serious happened.  smile
