JD's Retirement Plan

If you had purchased $1,000 of AIG stock one year ago, you would have $42 left.
With Lehman, you would have $6.60 left.
With Fannie or Freddie, you would have less than $5 left.
But if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all
of the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling
REFUND, you would have had $214.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink
heavily and recycle. It's called the 401-Keg Plan

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. How much does a 6-pack cost? (I don't drink beer, I don't know this stuff.) How much do you get per can to recycle it?

At any rate, I'll bet you'd still get at least $42.

We pay a 10 cent deposit on beer and pop, but any canned tea, lemonade, etc has no deposit.  We save those cans and my husband sells them for scrap aluminum.  I don't remember how much he gets when he sells them; I'll have to ask him when he gets home today.

30 twelve ounce cans of MGD for $15. So 1000 bucks gets you 2000 cans of beer (assuming it's tax-free)

You gotta love the internet, all this info is available with a google search.

28 empty cans equals one pound of aluminum.

So you get 71 lbs of aluminum.

Be back, gonna see what they're paying per pound

US average rate for less than a truckload of used aluminum cans is only .24 a pound.

That's $17.14.

BUSTED!

It's ok though.  I don't think JD needed another reason to drink beer.  He single handedly has sheilded the entire industry against the economic downturn nod.gif

So you could have actually kept more of your money investing in AIG. BUT, you care a lot less about your losses when your drunk, so I'd still go with the beer nod.gif

But JR, you still get more with the beer drinking plan than you would've got from Lehman, Fannie, or Freddie.

The deposit on a keg has gone way up in price because people were selling them for scrap aluminum.  Somebody told me they paid $100 deposit this summer.  Guess that's one way of making sure the empty ones come back.

Up north this summer people were smashing up air conditioning units and taking the copper that's in them to sell.  They are also stealing aluminum fishing boats and the pontoons off pontoon boats and selling those at the scrap yards that aren't abiding by the law.  Scrap yards here in MI are supposed to ask for driver's license and registration for things like a boat; but there are a few around that don't.
