College student robbery suspect was out on bond for murder charge

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say Charleston Southern University students Tangie White and Justin Moore majored in armed robbery, and targeted three McDonald's restaurants in less than an hour early Monday morning.

"All through the drive through. The method of operation seemed to be the same in each incident," North Charleston Police Lt. Scott Deckard said.

Investigators say the suspects first hit the McDonald's on Rivers at Aviation, where they took off empty handed. Cops say the suspected student bandits got some cash from the McDonald's at Rivers and Otranto, but came away empty at a third McDonald's on College Park Road.

Little did detectives realize that the trail would lead back to Charleston Southern University.

That's where police say 23 year old White and 20 year old Moore tried to rob some students in a dorm room. The victims called campus police and CSU was put on lockdown.

Officers arrested the pair when they returned to campus and also recovered a gun.

Live 5 News has learned Tangie White is awaiting trial for murder in the state of Alabama. Police in Huntsville say White gunned down a woman in a motel parking lot in June of 2006.

We have also learned White lied on his CSU enrollment application when he enrolled as a freshman transfer last August. He failed to fill out the line where it asked if he has ever been arrested or convicted of a felony.

CSU officials say they do not do background checks, but if they knew about the murder charge, White would never have been allowed to enroll. Officials say Moore is on academic probation and was on his way out of school.

Police are thankful the crime spree ended without bloodshed.

"It's one of those cases where everything worked, worked to the best," Lt. Deckard said.

Police in Huntsville say they had no idea White was enrolled at CSU. He was scheduled to stand trial on the murder charge October 27.

are they just high or stupid or what?? what makes anyone think that any of this is ok to do?? trying to prove you're big man, a tough guy? In China, they'd just shoot em.

Our school sure has been through a lot lately and this just adds one more nail to the coffin. I agree- shoot em all! I was definitely able to use this to teach my son what smoking pot while your young can do to you!

One of my questions was what was he doing out of state? I thought they kept an eye on you when you have a murder trial pending. I am surprised that he even made bail. He must have known if the school found out about his pending legal issue that they wouldn't have allowed him to enroll. I wonder if he was trying to hide out? Oh well, he will be going to jail for two reasons now. I hope that his time doesn't run concurrently. Make sure it is served consecutively.
