When do you just call it quits?

Pambo sent me an e-mail today informing me that I can buy tickets to see .38 Special at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, MO. John Knox Village is a retirement community. Granted, it is a nice one... but wouldn't that kind of be a major let down to a band that used to headline at areans? Just wondering. confused.gif

Yeah, I think you're being too hard on em' Mema.

They should be congratulated for their ingenuity. They're playing out AND scouting out future living arrangements smile.gif

I'm just thinking it would have to be a major downer to go from playing to thousands of screaming fans to playing the Dentu-creme set.

Probably true. I don't know... perhaps they are still playing for the love of playing. Hard to say... I just can't see it being that much fun for them.

I actually think about that a lot too.   Most artists only get one, maybe two tours at the height of their fame where they play stadiums and arenas.  Then the rest of their careers they play smokey little dives with audiences of 500.  Maybe a couple thousand if they're lucky.

it's gotta suck a little.

Look at groups like REO Speedwagon.  They pretty much just play state fairs now.  People throw funnel cakes at em' biggrin.gif

State fairs, Knott's Berry Farm, amusement parks... that's gotta hurt after being on top.

ELO Put out an album about 8 years ago that Dylan turned me on to. It was a REALLY good CD.

Later on I read that it sold like 7,000 copies the first four months. It eventually went on to sell about 33,000 before the label deleted it from their catalog. That made me REALLY sad. To think that a group with the history and past sales of ELO put out an album and basically nobody noticed.

They are still making more money than they would at normal jobs.  Still doing someting they enjoy and are good at.  I wouldnt feel too sorry for them.

That's a good point. A bad day on the road is better than a good day in a cubicle selling insurance. nod.gif
