This was a funny experience with my ferret Boris today, and I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of his story. Boris has had itchy skin on his tail and back, so I contacted a vet to find out what to do. Her reccommendations contributed to Boris' extreme irritation with me today. Here's what she told me to do:
1. Change his food to ferret pellets - Boris hates anything but fortune cookies and kitten kibble. He is NOT digging the new food.
2. Mix a skin and coat enhancing oil with the pellets daily - He wrinkled his nose at this. Literally.
3. No bathing for 2-4 weeks - This is the only slice of heaven he gets out of this deal. He loves feeling clean but HATES getting wet.
4. To deter itching and rubbing, have him wear a shirt - Boris now has a little red t-shirt on, and his deep and inconsolable annoyance is written all over his little face. He's glowering at me. I can see we will be battling over the shirt thing.
Poor Boris!
