Sad, sad news

Just wanted to let you all know that I have been robbed.

Robbed of FREEZE FRAME!  Our IT guy has put a block on Live365 at work and we have been told that we are not allowed to listen to internet radio any more.  Something to do with bandwidth or some other such crap.  Sigh.  So, I will try and listen at home, but that will be difficult for me with my schedule and my husband's sleeping schedule.  Just wanted to let you guys know what is going on.  I won't be able to help with bingo numbers, cuz I won't hear them.  I will still check in on the boards, but they have really restricted out usage of internet.  Not because of me, because I was only doing it on break and lunch, but because it has gotten out of control.  Pity party for me all next week if you please.

OH NO TRISH!

I can't tell you how bad that makes me feel.  That REALLY REALLY sucks.

You know, those IT guys sometimes are just insane with the power they hold over everyone.

I guess it will be back to commercial radio for you, but we're really going to miss you.  I feel like a family member is leaving us

Man, this is really bugging me.

You and Mo were the two first people to really get into the forum and everything.  This so sucks!

I'm not a happy camper right now.  You're IT guy better never travel to Milwaukee or he's gonna be beaten with my microphone!

Thanks, guys!  I appreciate the support.  I will still visit as often as I can.  There may not be any change in my board habits after all.  I was able to tune in once over the weekend.  The problem is my husband works midnights and he's sleeping when I'm home some of the time and I can't listen to freezeframe without blaring it because it's in my dining room, so I have to wait until he leaves at about 9:30 to listen and, call me crazy, but I have to sleep some time.  I will mostly listen on the weekends now.  I'm not letting go of my favorite radio station, I just won't be able to listen as often as I would like.  I won't be going back to commercial radio.  I will bring in CD's.  If you can't have the best, why settle?

So Trish,

Whats the deal with this IT guy?

Was it an actual mandate from management that he ban live365 or was it just a case of him lording his powers over everyone?  Meanwhile he's probably playing online DUngeons and Dragons in his cube!!!

Were a lot of people in your office using streaming internet radio?  Was it really a big bandwith issue?

Was your whole office listening to us!!!  (Our numbers are about 20 off the norm today!!!!, Apparantly No Trish and every else leaves too!)

I am going to miss you too Trish. I have been real busy at work lately, but I would read posts if I had a minute. It was nice to have some female companions. It was also nice to hear from a fellow JT Groupie! We went through the same thing here at work a few years ago. We were told that it takes up too much bandwidth. However, I have been sneaking in the internet radio, waiting to get caught!

Email me if you want to caught up on the bingo numbers anytime!

Trish--I feel for you.  I don't know what I would do without my freeze-frame.  We had the same issues at our office--all relating to bandwith.  I am not an IT guy, but I was told some people in the company were not getting email in a timely manner becasue all the internet radio slowing everything down.  I did have one advantage, I owned the company--so I didn't get cut off.  We have since sold the company and I work from home.  My freeze frame is on every day from about 7:30 am PST to 9:30 pm PST.  I would have severe withdrawls and did for a couple of days when Real Player would not let me sign in.  I feel for you.

I imagine even a T1 line will only support so much streaming radio.

If a company has a T1 line and 500 employees, and 100 of those employees actually tuned in, the T1 would probably be no better than a dial up!

Hopefully some day they'll create a way to stream quality sound at a lower bitrate.

Man...I wish it was they IT guy preventing me from listening to FFR...then It would be something out of my control....as it is, I have to self impose my FFR ban because my workload is just too heavy....as I've told a couple other members, I have so much to do, I don't have time to hear myself think, let alone try to listen to music, even stuff as great as FFR. I try to listen at break times & lunch(When I'm not working through it)....but I gotta bring home that paycheck to pay the bills (if I told you how far in debt i was, none of you'd believe me)and unfortuneately that means I have to cut back on the FFR....But also like i've said...Trish & I are lurking....keep posting & we'll keep reading....and responding when possible...And cybershotting riggs always....

You know, you and Trish have me seriously reconsidering the whole Freeze-Frame Bingo thing.

Two of our very first members have had to stop listening either because it's making it hard for them to work or because their employer is clamping down on them.

I have to seriously wonder if it's a good idea to have our listeners sitting there with a sheet of bingo cards taped to their overhead storage trying to listen intently for the bingo numbers throughout the day.

Maybe we'll just go back to giving away the occassional prize to a certain number emailer or something.

I'd hate to lose anymore listeners because their IT guy decides to shut down their access.

I think the problem stems from the fact that we have one server that services five different locations and a lot of people were tuning in to the radio.  We also have had MSN shut down and instant messaging and hotmail because of virus issues.  Our system requires a lot because all of our stuff is done on the server and if the server is slow because everyone is tuning into online radio, it cuts down on productivity.  I'm just going to have to try and tune in when I can.

I was wondering, does it make a difference on how much you receive if I'm not listening as much when I'm a VIP member or do you receive the same amount because I have you listed as my favorite station?  If the amount of time I'm listening affects the cash flow, I'm seriously considering just clicking on before I go to bed and turning the volume on low so it doesn't wake up the kids so you get the time in and get some cash.  I don't know how the whole Live365 thing works.

I'm still going to post, even though I can't listen.  I don't want to lose contact with my freezeframe family.

I really do appreciate the outpouring of support.  You guys rock!

Thats what I do trish- Freeze Frame is on pretty much 24-7 at my house, the station gets the VIP hours, even if I have the volume off BECAUSE SOMEONE KEEPS ON REQUESTING "I"M JUST A BARBIE GIRL IN A BARBIE WORRRRRRLD!!!!"

Yeah Trish, we only get the benefits if you're actually tuned in to the station.

Wow, this doubly sucks for you now.  You were even getting the CD Quality sound while you tuned in at work and you've lost it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the whole issue blows over in a few months.  Maybe someone will send some comprimising photos of your IT guy and a goat to the head of the company :)

Better yet, maybe some photo's of the IT guy with the company presidents husband or wife

I think Trish's example just goes to show us  just how new and cutting edge streaming internet radio still is in relation to corporate bandwidth, and how its continually growing & fetal existence will raise red flags in a lot of IT scenarios (which are still so windows 98 in most cases). This, as well as being a new and viable competition for broadbast radio, will cause all sorts of problems. These are the growing pangs of the radio revolution. Do not feel that you are not a part of this. Thank you for being here!

I know what you mean Trish.  Our IT security department has disbanded our MSN messenger because of the viruses also.  FFR is one of the things that helps me get through my day.
