Thanks, Sandy. With so many people out of work, I feel very fortunate to have found something I really like. I am working for Walthers now, a company specialized in the model train industry. What a change! But I like that I now can work with consumer goods and influence the manufacturing level in a new product division...it was something I really wanted to try out! It's the realm of marketing and product management I really needed to round out my experience. I'm so excited! It's a bit overwhelming though, learning a new job in a new industry.

Oooo, model trains. Do you get to play with them too while you're at work??
Seriously though, I'm very happy for you!
Yeah, it's always kind of hard and a little scary when you go into a job doing something different than you're used to, but it's a great opportunity for growth and learning new things.
Was this the job you were telling me about....negotiating a salary for?
Yep, that's the one! I won't pretend to be all that into model trains - the hobby is definitely not for me. But it is interesting to see how product development comes together, how railroad history plays such a huge part in the industry, and how we work with international vendors.
Thanks again, Sandy, I've been so grateful for your supportiveness.

Yeah, I'm not really into model trains myself, but I've seen some really incredible displays people have worked years on. It amazes me how life-like and intricate the hobby really is. It's a huge industry in some circles.
Aw shucks, G-gal, that's what friends are for.
So what else is new in your part of the world? Not much going on here. Still haven't heard any definite yet about my job; lots of rumors, lots of talking going on all over, but none of the higher ups are saying anything. I haven't said a word to anyone in my family yet.....no sense having them worried and wondering about something that might not happen.
Reading anything good? I started "Sole Survivor" by Dean Koontz last week, but haven't really been reading much. I think I need new glasses.....my eyes get a little tired if I read for any length of time so I've been limiting myself. Hard to do sometimes, haha.
Hey, hang in there. It doesn't do any good to fret over the unknown - all you can do is believe in yourself and know that you'll come out on top, no matter what. You know I'm chanting for you!
I'm reading Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris right now. I thought I'd give it a try since her books have become so popular and HBO picked it up to make into a series. I'm undecided as to whether or not I'm really into it, though. I love a good vampire story, but it's very different from the style to which I'm accustomed. Have you read her work?

No I haven't. I like vampire stories too, so you'll have to let me know if it's any good after you finish it. I'd probably being doing some comparing her story with Anne Rice's vampire series. Is this book a lot different than her's?
Very, very different form Anne Rice's work. I think that's why I'm unsure about whether or not it really appeals to me. But, it's worth a try...I'll let you know!

Ok thanks! That's why I haven't started the Twilight series.....I'm afraid I'd be really disappointed after Rice's chronicles. She had a way of making her vampires seem like real people by bestowing human emotions on them, yet made them dark and dangerous too. Just love, love, love those books as you know.
There's a series on demons you might like. Jacqueline Frank writes them. Excellent story plots, very good imagery in her descriptions, characters have the same type of "feel" to them as Anne Rice gave her's. I think if you started them, you'd enjoy the books. The first one in the series is called "Jacob, The Nightwalker".
I haven't read the Charlaine Harris books, but I'm hooked on th HBO series based on them. My daughter in law has the books, so I will likely see if I can borrow them from her.

What do you like about the series Mema? I'm curious what the appeal is - not that I don't think there is something to it, I just wondered what has created such a following since I don't know much about her work.

I think the story line is pretty good. Vampires have "come out of the coffin" thanks to the advent of synthetic blood. There is even a civil rights movement to get them the same rights as the living. The characters are all sort of odd ducks in their own right, so it's hard to tell who is a "good guy" and who is a 'bad guy". It's not all blood and gore like a horror movie, and the vampires are not all suave and debonair like in the classics. It seems more like what they would be like if they were real... fiobles and all.

I really want to see the HBO series, but I didn't know it was based on a book. I'll have to check it out.
Ghost, I think you would like the Twilight series. They're about a relationship between a human teenager and a vampire, and the struggles and dangers that involves. Plus, the books are a quick read.
I'll probably give the Twilight series a try this winter Mz. I know they're popular; my daughter says they're always getting checked out at the library and there's a wait list for them. Guess I better get my name on the list.
