Resolution of my extended warranty situation

I just got a call back from the finance manager at Bob King Mazda.

He was VERY apologetic and explained that it appears the extended warranty was sold to me for slightly less than what the warranty company was willing to accept and the contract was bounced back to Bob King.

The finance guy I dealt with had to then rewrite it with for the minimum they would accept and resubmit it.

So the manager apologized profusely and said he is sending me a check for the difference tomorrow.

meanwhile, the guy who handled the sale and apparantly falsified the contract is on vaction until next Monday and apparantly is in some serious trouble.  The manager said he may be in contact with me again if it's ok, to get more information.  But he knows what day the contract was altered and resubmitted, knows I was no longer in the state, and therefore knows the contract was fraudelantly altered and "approved".  So he's pretty upset.

I'm just glad everyone handled everything without a huge hassle to me.

I am glad that it seems to be settled JR. Glad you didn't have to rip anyone's head off.

At least they are going out of their way to fix it. It makes me wonder how many other people this guy did similar things to. I'll bet the dealership is scared of that too.

I hope that is how its going down.

The skeptic in me wonders if this is a 'good cop, bad cop' game they play? Maybe they pull this stuff and if you just pay it then ok but if they get caught then they play it up like they just did to keep you from filing formal charges.

Hopefully he's being honest with you.

You know Web, that crossed my mind, but the amount of $42.50 or whatever it was just seems so petty when you're talking about a 10,000 total purchase. I would hope they're not dumb enough to play that game for such a small amount.

Then again, they may figure that won't be noticed by anyone.

I would bet the guy I dealt with figured the finance company would just be sending me the payment schedule, and not include a photocopy of the contract. In fact, the way they included it and wrote a few things on their letter makes me wonder if they were purposely pointing it out to me.

They probably were purposely pointing it out to you. Standard procedure in that case should have been to contact you and rewrite the whole contract for the extended warranty. I checked with my wuzband on this because he is in fact a car salesman. According to him, the mark outs are likely exactly why the copy was sent to you because it should have been bounced back to the dealership AGAIN. If Bob King Mazda is any kind of reputable dealership, it is highly likely that the finance manager who pulled that foolishness will get fired.

I think Web is on to something. Remember in Office Space...they skimmed something like 1/16 of a cent off accrual interest and ended up with a boat-load of money?

I bet someone somewhere is sitting on a yacht in the Caribbean writing new warranties and sipping on Pina Colada's and laughing at some guy freezing his ass off in Wisconsin.

Looking at his hot girlfriends with the store-bought suntanned boobs he writes this guy a check for $42 and knows that poor slob will be as happy as a shirtless Packer fan at a January playoff game.

Meanwhile, the off shore bank account grows a couple grand more and it cost him just $42 bucks.
He thinks this to himself as he writes another $42 check to some other poor slob in another state who'll be just as happy as all the other poor slobs that came before.

Just sayin....

Wow that story does stink, I am skeptical like Ray and Web. I am wondering why 42 dollars more would make the warranty company happy???

I'm sure the warranty company has a minimum charge. It may well be that when Riggs was buying the car, the finance guy monkeyed with the numbers in order to get to the price that he was willing to pay. It happens all the time.

Just like in any business, there are honest people and dishonest people. Without making a judgement on the whole dealership, I would say they have a very shady finance guy. Hopefully the management / owner of the dealership will take this very seriously and rid themselves of this guy who will certainly someday get them sued if he sticks around.

Hopefully the people he spoke with yesterday will make good on their promise to reimburse him for the extra charge. If they don't, then it would be time to throw a public spotlight on how they do business. Nothing is worse for a business than a whole lot of bad publicity, especially when sales are already down.

Yeah, if I don't get that check within a week I'll be calling them back.

But this guy sounded quite sincere and quite honestly upset. He was basically the finance guys boss and he really sounded rattled when he called back and had the contract in front of him.
