I hoping for the best, Woo. But if it helps, I know what it's like to go through that with a family member. My mother in law has dementia, but we didn't really find out about it until we had to drive to St. Louis in the middle of the night to get her (she lives in Northern Indiana).

She's currently medicated to treat it, but it'll just get worse as she gets older. It runs in her family too, her mom and aunt are both in a home and have been for a long time because of mental instability. And sometimes Brian is too much like his mom, and it scares me.

the 11th day of the 11th month...

Thanks to those who have served...

Last year I discovered a great uncle who died in WW2... He was on board HMS Kelly and was lost at sea when Kelly was sunk... I know where his memorial is and hope to visit one day...

Also last year I helped Mark and his mum trace her grandfather... We started with a surname, an initial and a few photos...

This year Mark and his parents went to his actual grave near the Somme...probably the first time a descendent has been there...

Wow Pip, that's great that you were able to help your mother-in-law find her grandfather's gravesite.  smile  I'm sure it was a touching moment for them when they visited his grave.

we got a very lucky break to be fair and it ended up easier than expected

We contacted a library that is near where the family come from and Mark enquired if they would have any information as he intended to go along and research his great grandfather...

A member of staff e-mailed back a week or so later saying yes, but not only that, she had searche a journal newspaper from the village and found an article about someone of the same name. Mark had booked a day off work to go over there and look around so went to the library , they showed him the article and asked if it might be his relative - well there was no doubt about it, cos it had a photo of him ...the same soldier as in our photograph. the article told of how he died and everything just fell into place.

On the same day Mark did not have any luck finding his relative's name on his town's war memorial...but as about to leave spotted a light on at the British Legion club so knocked on their door to ask if anyone knew of any other memorials... Amazingly they invited him in and took him to the bar and on the wall behind the bar, above the optics was another memorial...and their was his grandfather's name

That is really cool, Pip. I'm so happy for your family that you were able to find information on your relatives. Visiting their memorials would be an awesome experience.

Someday when my grandkids are a bit older and are learning about American history, I hope to be able to take them to Washington, DC. It is an amazing place to see, plus my father and one of my uncles are both buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I think it might make that experience a little more meaningful for them.
