Hi Ya.

Watching Good Morning America while getting ready and they were interviewing some people ("experts") about the bailout. They said that right now, 9% of homes are either in foreclosure or the owners are behind and near foreclosure. A homeowner asked "Ok, but what about the other 91% of us that are doing a good job? Do we get some kind of reward for being responsible?"

The answer was "No, this is just one of those cases where life's not fair".

They also said that although about 1/2 of the 700 billion dollars have been given out, NO recipients have reported to show that it is being used wisely even though accountability was supposed to be a BIG part of getting the money.

Just got a call about my father-in-law and right now we feel positive.

The other night was not good. He had to be strapped down in bed- he fell out of bed trying to leave. But he slept most of last night and so far today seems about 50% more clearer mentally today. So hopefully he will continue to make progress. The doctors are going to try and remove the catheter and he may be out in a few days if his progress continues. smile

Web... unfortunately, some things will never change. Congress was in such a hurry to push money out the door there is no way it could be accounted for. There are lots of people out there now making it their financial plan to wait on the government to bail them out. It's sad.

JD... it may be a fairy tale, but hey... I'm doing my kindness. I'm working from home.

Fuzzy... Another way to look at it is you could try randomly being nice to a person or two just to mess with them. Trust me on this... it really freaks people out. nod.gif Nobody said you have to have altruistic motives.

today on the ride in from work, I saw a guy driving with a cig and coffee in one hand, his notebook in the other, and talking on his cell phone. this was on the free way. I did not feel like being kind to him.

On the other hand, JD, the greater act of kindness might have been to bumper check him into the ditch. Sacrifice one for the sake of the many. It's all in how you look at it. As Bill Clinton would say, it depends on what the definition of "kindness" is.

That stuff always happens. If you watch most of the news channels, it is all Obama all the time. One was even reporting on the condition of his White Sox baseball hat this morning. Congress is now working on buying into the banks and the auto makers... radical change of course from the initial bail out plan. He might as well be in office right now.

The more I've read about the plan to bail out the automakers the more I'm against it.

I saw a representative of the automakers on TV a few nights ago saying "Hey, they're giving $40 billion to AIG, we're only asking for $25 billion"

Suddenly all the big companies are starting to think like welfare recipients. angered.gif

The problem is that the auto makers have no real financial viability anymore. They're so buried in huge pension plans that they say a huge portion of what you pay for a car goes just to pay the employees that no longer work for them.

Add to that the fact the unions have the employees making $40 an hour along with minimum man hour requirements to produce each vehicle (in other words, the automaker can't pump out cars more efficiently because the union negotiated minimum man hour limits) and there's no reason to think these companies can fix themselves after we've given them a bandaid.

I don't know what the answers are anymore. But I don't like the direction we're heading, not one bit. no.gif

The remaining $350 Billion or so of the original $700 Billion is now being "repurposed". Instead of buying up bad assets owned by the banks, the government is buying into the banks. Instead of loaning the auto manufacturers money to retool to make more efficient / desireable cars... they are buying into the auto makers directly. In other words, Congress is moving in the direction of government ownership / nationalization of these industries.

I don't disagree that the auto makers and unions got us into this mess. I don't know what the answer is or if there is a good answer to be had. I agree with you that this particular direction is becoming more disturbing by the day.

So, if the government owns the car makers, instead of issuing me a tax refund, every five years I get new car? weirdface

I dunno, but I'm thinking not. Might check with the peeps in other countries where the government owns the manufacturing of durable goods.

We should AT LEAST get a discount on our car purchases!  Hell, we'll be part owners of the company!
