On a HOT FOOD Scale....

Went to a thai food restaurant last night, where pretty much each dish could be ordered at a hotness level from 1 (mild) to 10 (hospital you idiot).

If you had a choice, what level would you order your food from?

I ordered mine a 4. I am ok with a bit spicy, but not so much the food is ruined by too much hotness. It was good, I probably could have done 6 and had it be perfect for me. But, first time, its best to bet conservatively. And really, how much is it a stretch from 3-4, 4-5 etc?

I usually don't like my food hot, but it depends on what I'm eating.  I'd say most of the time 2 or 3, but with something like wasabi I can go probably a 5, maybe 6.  Jalapeno or habanero peppers are too hot for me if that helps with the scoring numbers.

About the only spicy thing I ever actually crave are some mild wings now and then.

If I'm in the mood for spicy hot food, I want it just a step or two below "melts the enamel off your teeth". Not sure if you have Buffalo Wild Wings up north, but I get either the Hot sauce or the Wild. Never tried the Blazin' because Wild is enough to cause internal damage. giggle.gif

years ago at the printing company riggs and I used to work at, a few of us would occasionally order the #6 plate from Jalisco's Mexican Restaurant. this was literally beef chunks marinated in tobasco and battery acid, served on pita. we'd sit there at lunch and just laugh at eachothers sufferings. I knew the secret tho. they served a small serving of lettuce and tomato on the side, topped with lemon slices. if you sucked on a lemon slice, it took the pain away, or at least made it managable for your tongue. it was magic. between the lemon, and arranging my bites so that the pita buffered my tongue, I got all my food down with relative ease. I usually was the first to sweat, but also the first to finish and say "LETS GO YOU WIMP HEY?? " to all those who laughed at me sweating first.smile.gif

I went to Hunan's once for dinner.  Whatever I ordered had what looked like ****aki mushrooms in it, so I scooped some up.  As soon as I bit into it, I knew it wasn't mushrooms!!!  Turns out they were these little skinny red peppers, and man were they hot!!!!  I didn't know what to do......I knew I couldn't swallow it because just biting into it almost made me throw up, yet I didn't want to spit it out either.  So I pretended I dribbled on my chin and spit it in my napkin.  That was it; I couldn't even finish my dinner. I haven't been back to Hunan's since.  Their food is HOT!

Hehehehe... and I bet you sleep better than I do on those nights. About 3AM, I'm up and hating myself for my love of the hot sauce. flame.gif

I'm with you JD. I like spicy, but not so spicy that I can't actually taste the food. I would go with a 5.

I said 5. A lot of the time it will be less because I usually share with my husband and he is a wuss- lol

I won't actually eat peppers though. I just like hot sauce like for wings or bbq ckn pizza or something. I also love hot candies. An old co-worker of mine would used to try and get me really hot fireballs and see if I had to spit them out. She hated me because I could withstand it. biggrin

I agree with JD where I like a little spice, but not so much that it drowns out my food and all I have is a burning mouth. That isn't any fun. Had that Friday night at the Mexican place. They serve chips and salsa. Since it is made on site, the salsa never has the same level of spice twice. It was too much for me. The best way to get that taste or feeling out of your mouth is to have something sweet.
