My favorite record store is closing.....sigh....

This place is (was..) awesome back in the day. Totally a cool spot and a cool reason to hit the cool side of town. Most of my vinyl came from here back in the day....

Atomic Records to close in February
By Rick Romell of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 5, 2008 10:32 a.m. | Atomic Records, a specialty music shop on the east side for 24 years, is going out of business.

The store, which features a large selection of independent and alternative music on disc and vinyl, will close in February, owner Rich Menning wrote in a notice on the shop's Web site.

"The decade-long (and running) decline of the music industry, combined with the recent economic downturn, have made it impossible to continue doing what we love to do," Menning wrote.

Atomic Records is at 1813 E. Locust St.

Wow. I thought they had shut down a while ago. I know I read a story in the paper about the tough times they (and all record stores) were having.

I miss my Total Eclipse Records. hmm.gif It's been gone for over a decade now.

I-Tunes is putting alot of record stores outta business. :(

It was always nice to browse through the racks and maybe catch a new artist that was playing.  Atmosphere.

One of the last ones left around here is the Exclusive Company.

I heard a great idea that some artists were putting out their album on vinyl at full price and including a free iTunes download of the album. That sounds like a great idea. I wonder why it never took off.

Vinyl actually gives a warmer sound too.

There's only one record shop left here.  The guy has been in business for years and years.  It's where I go when I'm looking for something specific that I know the chain cd stores don't carry.  Stepping through the door brings back a lot of memories of all the other really cool record shops that used to be around.  I'm hoping the tough economic times won't force him to close.

I'm gonna win the lottery and open a record store called "Stuck in the 80's"

We'll sell nothing created after 1989.  I won't even care if I turn a profit because I'll be rich.  I can just live my fantasy of being back in the 80's everyday when I go to work.  nod.gif

You know . . . for a lot less money, you could start up an internet radio station and have it feature 80's music.

That would be awesome! nod.gif

You're not gonna wear leisure suits in every color of the rainbow, are you?? weirdface.gif

I hope you know you're gonna have to have a "head shop" too somewhere in the back corner.  A record shop is not a record shop without one.  giggle.gif

Oh, and the other corner in the back has to be devoted to black light posters, black lights, and concert t-shirts that look really cool under black lights.  nod.gif

Your record shop won't ROCK without these things.  Of course if you're aiming for boring then you can forego all of it.  wink
