What Is Your Favorite Christmas Song?

My favorite "real" Christmas song is Gloria In Excelsis Deo. Walking into the local Wally World the other day, there was a 5 man choir bell ringing for Salvation Army, and they were belting out a really good acapella version. I didn't have much cash on me, but they got what I had in my wallet. smile.gif

Beyond that, anything found on Bob Rivers Twisted Christmas, especially O Little Town Of Bethlehem. They used the acutal words, but put it to the tune of House Of The Rising Sun. SO wrong, but it sounds really cool!

Mema mentioned starting a new thread titled this, so here it is. smile

I have many, many favorites, but here's a few:
Silver Bells
Hark The Herald Angels Sing
Carol of the Bells
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
Away In A Manger
Have A Holly Jolly Christmas
Oh Come All Ye Faithful

My list could go on and on. nod.gifsmile  I like the Christmas classics I guess.

JR or Mz, can you please combine this with Mema's thread for me??  Thanks!!!

I love Gloria In Excelsis Deo.  I was going to put it in my list but wasn't sure of the spelling.  When I was in choir in school, this was my favorite song to sing during our Christmas performances.

OOO... I forgot... that version of O Little Town Of Bethlehem is on the I Am Santa Claus album... which is fan-friggin-tastic. I used to have the CDs but I think they got left in a car I traded in. Gonna have to download the MP3s.

I'd have to say it's a 3-way tie for me. My favorites, for very sentimental reasons, are:
Bing Crosby - White Christmas
Bing Crosby & David Bowie - Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth
John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

They bring tears to my eyes, every time. aww

I'm not sure I remember the John Lennon / Yoko Ono song, but the other two are great!

Mema, I'm sure you'd know Happy Christmas if you heard it.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

When I was a kid, I thought that's what it was called too. wink  Made sense that it should've been titled that. laughing.gif

I guess I never bothered to look at the official name. I just sing along when it is on the radio. I haven't been much in the Christmas mood this year, so I have been avoiding the XM Radio Christmas stations.

I wasn't in the mood either, up until yesterday.  Then it hit me all at once.

The past 8 years though I get melancholy on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Christmas was my mom's favorite holiday.....she'd go all out baking, cooking, decorating, throwing parties, having the whole family at their house for the holidays.  When she passed away, her death took some of the joy out of the season for me.  It shouldn't have, but it did; and every Christmas since has held a great deal of sadness for me deep inside.

I LOVE Bob Rivers! I have 2 of his Christmas compilation CDs and they make me laugh every time! Of those songs, O Little Town Of Bethlehem is my fave followed by Jingle Hells Bells. laughing.gif

I just downloaded I Am Santa Claus and Twisted Christmas from Amazon. Those songs just crack me up! There is another Twisted Christmas album I have never heard. I started to preview it, but didn't finish. Might have to go check it out.

Jingle Hells Bells is good. The Restroom Door Said "Gentlemen" KILLS ME... as does The What's It To Ya Choir. I sing that one year around! I was all depressed about not having those CDs anymore, but all better now! smile.gif

Ghost, your reason for not feeling Christmas-y is very, very valid. I have no such reason really. My family wasn't what you would call close knit when when I was a kid. I thought I married into a close knit family, but I was OH SO WRONG. To me, Christmas is the height of familial dysfunction and crushing expense.

Oh nice...according to the local weather, the current temp is 7 degrees with a wind chill between -17 and -25. doh.gif Tomorrow a possible high of 15!

I'm not sure it counts, but my favorite is You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.

"The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote: Stink. Stank. Stunk."

I also like the one by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, Christmas Time is Here, from Charlie Brown Christmas, not because of the cartoon (although it rocks too), but it's such a pretty song.

More traditionally, I guess, I like the Christmas Song.

Has anyone heard Christmas Shoes? I hate and love the song at the same time. It came on the radio the other day as I was getting ready for work, and it nearly made me cry.

Aside from my not really enjoying the holiday (long, old story) I have a few:

Christmas Eve - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Christmas Wrapping - Waitresses
The Twelve Pains of Christmas - Bob Rivers (but the whole album is good)
Doug & Bob McKenzie - The Twelve Days of Christmas
White Christmas - Bing Crosby

That's probably my favorite parody Christmas song.  I also like the Cheech and Chong one about Santa.  Do we have that one...?

Nope, it doesn't look like we do.
