A Chia Photo Journey

Christmas 08 is over. I think the boy made out ok with his gift haul.

Santa was able to find time to fit our house into his busy schedule, and one of the gifts he left the boy was a Chia Frog. Weve never had a Chia anything before so were curious to find out if they really are as easy as the exciting Chia TV commercials make it out to be.

If you too are curious about this Chia revolution that is sweeping the nation, join us as we venture into a bit of photo journalism as we track the process of the Chia Frog.

Step one in the handy Chia Frog users guide is to soak the frog and the supplied Chia seeds in water overnight.

Here we can see said frog sitting in a pan of water (no heat is being applied) and the seeds are in a little bowl beside him. The boy is making scientific observations and notations (or drawing a picture, Im not sure which) as the experiment begins to unfold.

Stay tuned! Tomorrow we spread the seeds on the frog!

w00t!

My daughter wanted a Chia pet when she was 6 or 7, so one Christmas my mom got her a Chia dog.  It grew just like it was supposed to and she got the biggest kick out it!

She didn't go the scientific route though.  Your son should save those notes he's taking.....they could come in handy for a science fair project. nod.gifsmile

well cool.smile.gif

I look forward to the updates. I know chia does an herb garden, and I've wondered if it'd be any good. I'll use these updates as a guage as to whether or not I get one or not.smile.gif

A long, long time ago my son gave me a "poor man's Chia Pet"... it was something like a face painted on a nylon stocking that was filled with saw dust and grass seed. It grew just like it was supposed to which was really cool, but it got kind of moldy which was actually pretty gross. giggle.gif I enjoyed it none the less. I'd imagine the clay form for the actual Chia Pet is a much better idea.

It should be lots of fun to watch the progress. Love the picture of your boy! He looks so darn proud. smile.gif

I have a chia cat at home. The only real downside is that once it's grown, it only lasts a couple weeks. Then you have to scrape it off and start all over. I've only grown it once.

Day 2:

Now that Chia Frog and Chia Seeds have soaked in the proper h2o solution for the recommended amount of time, they have been removed from said solution and the seeds have been applied to the textured surface of the frog:

The photo journalistic Chiadventure continues.

(Chiadventure Yeah, I made that up myself.)

The instructions said to place the Chia Frog in a plastic bag which we did.

The plastic bag seems to have created a bit of a greenhouse effect. Notice the condensation on the top of the bag.

No rooting action has yet been discovered.

Does your son have any idea that his Chia frog has a major following?

Yeah, I've shown him the pics and posts.

He doesn't understand the potential world-wide fame though.

Give him a little time! Tell him people all over the country and in some cases in OTHER countries are watching (with interest) his very own Chia frog develop. smile.gif

Hmm, looks like he's going to be a grandpa frog. He's got a bald spot there in the middle of his back.
