Muddy Waters first recordings are made by Alan Lomax and John Works for the Library of Congress. "Country Blues," "I Be's Troubled," and Burr Clover's "Farm Blues" are his first recordings.

Jimmy Page was born.

Roy Milton hits #3 on the R&B chart with "Hop, Skip and Jump."

1956
Buddy Holly & the Two-Tones (Sonny Curtis and Don Guess) kick off a 14-date country & western tour in Little Rock, Arkansas. They're bottom-billed on a lineup that includes Hank Thompson, George Jones, Wanda Jackson and Cowboy Copas.

1959
Duane Eddys debut album, Have 'Twangy Guitar Will Travel,' is released. It is phenomenally successful, reaching #5 and remaining on the album charts for 82 weeks.

"Wild One" by Martha and the Vandellas charts at #34.

The Gibb family moves from Australia to London, England. Within months, the Bee Gees enjoy their first international hit: "New York Mining Disaster 1941" (#14 U.S., #12 U.K.).

Elvis Presley is named one of 10 Outstanding Young Men of the Year by the U.S. Jaycees.

American Pie, Parts I & II (Don McLean) was a hit.

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (Leo Sayer) was a hit.

Human League hits #6 in the UK with "Being Boiled".

Down Under (Men At Work) was a hit.

"Love Overboard" returns Gladys Knight and the Pips to the pop charts after a 12-year absense. It peaks at #13 pop and #1 R&B.

"#9 Dream," from John Lennons Walls and Bridges, enters the Top Forty, where it will peak, appropriately, at #9.

Funkadelic hits #28 with "One Nation Under a Groove".

Coca-Cola introduces "New Coke".

"Living in America," the theme song from Rocky IV, reaches #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, becoming James Brown's biggest pop hit since "I Got You (I Feel Good)" went to #3 in 1965.

I don't mind some Rap, but I'm not into gansta rap. no.gif  I actually liked all of Eminem's cds.  I can handle some Bubba Sparks and Busta Rhymes.  Some of Rage Against The Machine "raps" a little bit but with a metal edge.
