It actually hit theatres in December 2008, so now it's out on DVD...but good luck finding it. I don't know why it neve seemed to play around here and I can't find it in any of the rental stores in the neighborhood. hmm

Tenor sax player Lester "Prez" Young and trumpeter Buck Clayton play with Billie Holiday as part of Wilson's orchestra. It is Young who later bestows the nickname "Lady Day" upon Holiday.

1938
Etta James was born.

1958
"Oh Boy!" becomes Buddy Holly's third Top Ten hit.

1969
'Proud Mary', the Creedence Clearwater Revival LP, is released. "Proud Mary" eventually reaches #2 on the charts.

Billy Preston hits #22 with "Struttin'".

Cat Stevens hits #26 with "Ready".

MTV debuts "MTV Sport," the networks first weekly sports magazine series with host Dan Cortese.

Although he was really nice to look at (before he cut his hair, of course) I hated that a sports show was on MTV. So wrong, so wrong. (OK, now I gotta request "So Wrong"!)

"Daydream Believer" by the Monkees (written by Neil Diamond) peaks the UK charts at #5.

Mahalia Jackson dies of heart failure in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She is buried at Providence Memorial Park in Metairie, Louisiana.

Johnnie Johnson's third solo album, 'Johnnie B. Bad,' finds the piano great backed by Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and NRBQ.

MTV announces it will launch a 24-hour Spanish Language Network, MTV Latin America. Based in Miami, Florida, MTV Latin America will be a Spanish-language advertiser supported network targeting viewers 12-24. The network will be distributed to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, the United States and South America. MTV Latin America is schedules to launch in October 1993.

I appreciate that.  I tell you, before this new-fangled Internet thingie, I used to get a lot of people calling me with questions all the time.  I miss it - it made my brain work, which is good practice I think.
