Yeah Ghost! We are here for you!

Anytime you feel like lighting up just give me a call! I'll tell ya why I think the flaming liberals are ruining the country and before you know it you'll be too wrapped up in a heated debate to even think about smoking! clap.gif

I think that this is part of why these taxes are placed on these types of things.

If they decided to tax carrots, people would simply stop eating carrots and eat more celery instead. No big deal. They know that you can't just stop smoking that easily and that in most cases, you will pay whatever it costs.

You know that there are kids going without milk, and other good foods they need because the parents spent the money on the cigarettes first and there just wasn't enough left to buy the good food. In that sense the taxes are hurting a lot more than just the intended target.

Be careful JR. Your banter may cause her to go the other way, stressing her out and she will start chain smoking.

I was fortunate when I quit smoking that I did it on my own. I wasn't allowed to smoke at work at all. For a short time there were smoke breaks but people abused them and they took them away. I was always too busy to partake. I only smoked once while I was working here and that is when my meanie of a sister who was mgr at the time told me off and sent me on way! evileye I went to another parking lot, had a cigarette and came back still mad as hell!

But between the job and the man because he did not smoke, I just found myself weening without realizing it. I still get the craving with stress and definitely with anger and the urge is always there when I drink in a social situation. I don't remember the exact time I quit. I just know it was early in out relationship before we were married. We were married in 2001.

I have a had a few from time to time at parties but never enough to kick the habit back in.

I would have to agree with you on that point Web.  I've never put my habit ahead of providing food for my kids, but I'd be willing to bet it does happen and probably more often than we know.

And back to JR's point.......they want people to quit, but they haven't come up with anything that actually works the first time around and keeps people from "falling off the wagon."  If they could come up with a pill that took away all cravings and didn't have the nasty side effects like Wellbutrin (thanks Mema!) I'm sure there wouldn't be any smokers left.
