RE: Currently playing on Freeze-Frame Radio

Hey guys,

We COULD go to the second option.  I mean, the die hard listeners would be willing to come back and do a request every 15 or so minutes.

Also, I can set up the software to pick at random a song from the ENTIRE file to be played, once every 15 minutes or so, so that even if requests are coming in, something different will get played.

IN FACT, I believe I even have the option of telling it to play the song out of 5300 that has not been played in the longest time!  So the REAL rarites would get mixed in

I like the way it is right now, 2 every 30 minutes.

I think one thing that would give the requests more of a variety is if you had the songs by title or if you could search by title. There are a lot of songs that I like but do not know who sings them. Or I will browse through and find a song that I had forgotten all about.

I like the way the request system is setup right now. I like to request 2 or 3 and then go away. Going to one every 15 minutes would mean more time I would have to go back to the site.

I like that latter option of having songs that have been played the least show up.

I often find myself requesting the same things mostly because I can't remember the artist that sings a certain song. Is there a way to add a search option to the request system? A search option that could find words in songs? That might get people thinking of other songs they'd l ike to hear - that is if they could recall a word in the title...

One song every fifteen minutes would be fine too - although I was already under the impression that you often hit a scramble button of some sort that shuffled the requests anyway... so you don't hear any one person's two requests in a row.

It's rare that I request the same song twice, I listen to the radio to add a little variety.  When I request, I usually pick a letter, do a little browsing, and pick something I hadn't heard in a while.

I don't know if changing the request system to one every 15 minutes would really make a difference.  I usually end up finding a few songs and then picking from them, and it would be a lot harder to narrow it down to only one.  What if you go the other way and make the time between requests longer, say 2 every 45 minutes or hour?

I also like the idea of throwing in the rarities amongst the requests.  But, I would think it would have to go by the song that hasn't been PLAYED in the longest time as opposed to the song that hasn't been REQUESTED, or else we'd just end up hearing the same song every day.  So, is it in fact the least played song that you could add in the mix?

I like the system just the way it is.  Realizing that I will draw fire--come on you guys.  Everyone hears songs that they do not like and we all know that we are guilty of requesting our favorites frequently.  This is exactly why I choose this station, because I can hear what I request.  Jeremy--do whatever your gut suggests.  There will always be a group of whiners.  I have a feeling that the whiners are in the minority.  So you hear a song seven times during the work week, big deal.  Skyebug, go right on requesting the Don Johnson song.  I don't like the song personally, but you probably hate the Laura Branigan that I request.  Tolerance should be something that is shared by all of us to continue to make this station great.

Well,

I've read all of your input, and I'm leaning toward changing nothing for now, other than to add that "LEAST PLAYED SONG" option.

I have been working on a very cool search function for almost a year!  I think NEISS is right that it would really help with getting new music requested.  But it hasn't worked yet.  The pages load painfully slow.  I believe I know where the problem lies, but it will take cash to fix so it's got to wait for awhile.

If you want to test it out, you can do so here...

http://www.freezeframeradio.com/samPHPweb/playlist.php?limit=25

It will take about 2 minutes for the page to load, and another minute or two for the search results.

But it is ACTIVE and can be used if you just can't think of who sings a song.

You search by ANYTHING, song title, album or artist.

You're right CP,

And I know you're not making an accusation, but let me just say loud and clear, NO ONE ON THIS BOARD HAS WHINED ABOUT THE SITUATION.

You guys have ALL been great, and I know we have your support regardless of the direction we take.  I only want to do whatever I can to make sure this station is as close to perfect that it can be for all of you.

The real complaints are usually via email, usually from someone I never heard from before, just telling me they're sick of hereing XYZ song every day, twice a day.

Variety is important, but if it gets to a point where you only enjoy the 2 songs you choose every hour or so, you're not going to want to listen to us for very long.  So I never want to get to carried away with restrictions.

I personally think everything is fine as it is, I do like the idea of the least requested song getting a play though that would be interesting. Keep up the good work Jeremy.

I once had a girlfriend that I broke up with in High School that made me a cassette tape of all the sad songs and Ballads trying to express how she felt about me. That Klymaxx song I miss You was on that... Oh the memories.

Did anyone else ever make a tape or had one given to them?

I made a mix tape for my wife when we were dating in college.  We still have it.  I can't remember what all is on it, but I know it has Wonderful Tonight, and a nice song by Anderson/Buford/Wakeman/Howe I believe called The Meeting.

Oh yeah, this song is on the tape too, Your Song by Elton John.  I'd never heard this version by Ewan McGregor until Freeze-Frame.

I really like this song "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" by Asia, but I always feel like the guy singing it can;t sing.  Is the singer the same one who does the vocals on Asia's hits like Heat of the Moment and Only time will tell?

MURSCCLUB-

Yes, it's the same lead singer for all the Asia stuff, John Wetton.  I love that song, and to be honest I like his voice.  But it's not the classic "good" singing voice.

I'm a HUGE Meat Loaf fan, and I think they're kind of similar, a big voice, without a lot of nuance.

That "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" is one I'm always singing around the house, even when the radios not on :)

I guess I like those real big production songs, like anything Meatloaf does, or Air Supply with MAKING LOVE OUT OF NOTHING AT ALL, Celine Dion with IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW, Bonnie Tylers TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART.

Those are all written by Jim Steinman who writes most of Meats successful stuff, and he said he always writes his music envisioning a character singing them.

IIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii LIKE IT!

I just found this station a couple of days ago.  It's great!  What tops it off is you have Mellencamp's Small Paradise on your playlist.  I can't get that on the local stations.  I promise not to request it too often.  The fact it's there for the request is enough to keep me listening.

Thanks!

NOTHING makes me happier than hearing the words "I Just Found Your Station"

Now if you'll just drink the kool-aid, in a week or two we'll have you completely hooked!

Nice, I was worried the Kool-Aid reference may be a bit too dated

Excellent!  Much Better!  You the man Jeremy!

Now Night Ranger sounds like they're singing a ballad, instead of sounding like they only had the recording studio rented for 10 more minutes and had to get the song done quickly.  Am I going too far to speculate that that song might have been a bigger hit it if had been slowed down like that and tweaked a little?

Yeah, I was really young when that story broke, but I remember as a kid watching the TV movie and really liking it.

I should have gotten into behavioral sciences or something because that type of stuff just mesmerizes me.  Trying to figure out the innerworkings of someone that's just insane like that.

Another one that I LOVED was the Billionaire Boys Club, with Joe Hunt and his paradox philosphy.  I would have LOVED to have been a cop assigned to work on that case.  Or a psychiatrist assigned to try and figure out what snapped in ol' Joe's head.

I don't know, I love those shows too though.

My friends think I'm nuts a lot of times because I constantly come up with "the perfect crime" :)

I always get so frustrated when I see some moron with a ski mask and a gun on the news trying to rob a bank.  How lame!  I don't think a week goes by that I don't come up with a great idea for a robbery or a scam.  But of course, it's only used in my head :)

I do think I could have been a great detective though, because I really can think like a bad guy.
