We COULD go to the second option. I mean, the die hard listeners would be willing to come back and do a request every 15 or so minutes.
Also, I can set up the software to pick at random a song from the ENTIRE file to be played, once every 15 minutes or so, so that even if requests are coming in, something different will get played.
IN FACT, I believe I even have the option of telling it to play the song out of 5300 that has not been played in the longest time! So the REAL rarites would get mixed in
I think one thing that would give the requests more of a variety is if you had the songs by title or if you could search by title. There are a lot of songs that I like but do not know who sings them. Or I will browse through and find a song that I had forgotten all about.
I like the way the request system is setup right now. I like to request 2 or 3 and then go away. Going to one every 15 minutes would mean more time I would have to go back to the site.
I like that latter option of having songs that have been played the least show up.
I often find myself requesting the same things mostly because I can't remember the artist that sings a certain song. Is there a way to add a search option to the request system? A search option that could find words in songs? That might get people thinking of other songs they'd l ike to hear - that is if they could recall a word in the title...
One song every fifteen minutes would be fine too - although I was already under the impression that you often hit a scramble button of some sort that shuffled the requests anyway... so you don't hear any one person's two requests in a row.
It's rare that I request the same song twice, I listen to the radio to add a little variety. When I request, I usually pick a letter, do a little browsing, and pick something I hadn't heard in a while.
I don't know if changing the request system to one every 15 minutes would really make a difference. I usually end up finding a few songs and then picking from them, and it would be a lot harder to narrow it down to only one. What if you go the other way and make the time between requests longer, say 2 every 45 minutes or hour?
I also like the idea of throwing in the rarities amongst the requests. But, I would think it would have to go by the song that hasn't been PLAYED in the longest time as opposed to the song that hasn't been REQUESTED, or else we'd just end up hearing the same song every day. So, is it in fact the least played song that you could add in the mix?
I like the system just the way it is. Realizing that I will draw fire--come on you guys. Everyone hears songs that they do not like and we all know that we are guilty of requesting our favorites frequently. This is exactly why I choose this station, because I can hear what I request. Jeremy--do whatever your gut suggests. There will always be a group of whiners. I have a feeling that the whiners are in the minority. So you hear a song seven times during the work week, big deal. Skyebug, go right on requesting the Don Johnson song. I don't like the song personally, but you probably hate the Laura Branigan that I request. Tolerance should be something that is shared by all of us to continue to make this station great.
I've read all of your input, and I'm leaning toward changing nothing for now, other than to add that "LEAST PLAYED SONG" option.
I have been working on a very cool search function for almost a year! I think NEISS is right that it would really help with getting new music requested. But it hasn't worked yet. The pages load painfully slow. I believe I know where the problem lies, but it will take cash to fix so it's got to wait for awhile.
And I know you're not making an accusation, but let me just say loud and clear, NO ONE ON THIS BOARD HAS WHINED ABOUT THE SITUATION.
You guys have ALL been great, and I know we have your support regardless of the direction we take. I only want to do whatever I can to make sure this station is as close to perfect that it can be for all of you.
The real complaints are usually via email, usually from someone I never heard from before, just telling me they're sick of hereing XYZ song every day, twice a day.
Variety is important, but if it gets to a point where you only enjoy the 2 songs you choose every hour or so, you're not going to want to listen to us for very long. So I never want to get to carried away with restrictions.
I personally think everything is fine as it is, I do like the idea of the least requested song getting a play though that would be interesting. Keep up the good work Jeremy.
