I just thought this was the cutest story. Especially the picture. ------------------- "Outlaw" Bikers Rescue Orphaned Kittens By Intern Katy, 10:45 AM on Thu Jan 8 2009, 43,126 views
A group of tattooed bikers rescued 180 stranded kittens yesterday afternoon, as part of their in your face approach to animal rights activism. They call themselves Rescue Ink.
The cats were all living in a single house in Moriches, New York, that is currently facing foreclosure. When the bikers heard about the soon-to-be homeless cats, they rushed to the scene. Today they begin the task of rescuing and rehabilitating the 180 felines, a job that will take about a week. In their mission statement, they profess their dedication to protecting animal rights: "We will stop at nothing within the bounds of the law to protect animals at risk. We will intercede without hesitation when we are informed of a situation that needs to be addressed, and we will address it. If we need to convince people to do the right thing ... we can be very convincing, we'll even buy animals if that's what it takes to get them away from abusers."
Thereby prooving that just because you are an inked up, hard core looking kind of guy that you can still have a soft heart. That guy looks all too happy to be snuggling a baby kitty.

I think this is way interesting. Tough folks seeing something innocent and helpless like kittens and having that strike something in them to want to help.

I think it is super cool, but not all that uncommon. In KC there is a ride every year for March of Dimes called Bikers For Babies. Everybody associates the biker community to the One-Percenters, but it's not quite the real picture. In KC at least, Bikers For Babies raises more money annually than Walk America does.

Another great example. Most of the rides in my area are not actually just for the fun of it, most of them are for charity... either babies, animals, or other bikers who have been injured.

When my husband and I first met, he asked me if I wanted to go to a biker party on our first date. I immediately thought of Hell's Angels bikers and was really leary of saying ok. Come to find out, it was just a huge group of guys he rode with sometimes. First biker party I went to sure was tame compared to what I had imagined.
Everybody associates the term "biker" to the one-percenters. Dude in the picture for sure has the one-percenter look about him, but that is why the call them one-percenters... most are not that. If you ever check out the video of the Sturgis rally, you will see LOTS of millionaires, CEOs, and otherwise "respectable" people who happen to ride.

I'll put it this way, if you saw me walking into or out of my office you would probably assume I would not EVER be caught dead on a bike. Mine is in the classification "touring bike"... one of the bigger ones on the road. The same holds true for most of the bikers I know... there are very few you could pick out on sight unless you saw us actually saw us on our bikes.

Oh I know Mema. Some of the guys my husband rode with were top execs at Dow. Never would've thought they rode a bike. Just didn't have "the look" most people assume bikers to look like.
The funny thing is some of the most hard core looking folk are some of the nicest people you could meet too. My ex-brother-in-law Dan... Hard core looking, heavily tattooed, beard half way down his chest... senior engineer at Bendix, and one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Belongs go a Christian biker club.
