A group of consumers sued and the two sides settled on a plan to distribute $175 million worth of free products.A Web site, informing customers about the deal said it applies to shoppers who bought specific products, at specific stores between 1994 and 2003.But retailers will take peoples word for it and no one will have to prove they qualify to get the deal. While its a great deal for customers, it might make for a good deal for retailers, as well. The retail sector is reeling with whats being called the worst holiday season in 40 years. The deal gets shoppers in their stores, and managers said they see it as an opportunity.
