US Airways flight down in New York's Hudson River

Emergency officials are responding to a downed plane in the Hudson River in New York City. The FAA confirmed US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 headed from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, was down in the river following a failed takeoff. The U.S. Coast Guard said units were also responding, and a ferry on site was dropping life jackets into the water.

Watching the live stream on CNN. One of the passengers just said they were able to go from the plane right into boats and thankfully didn't have to get in the water.

It's amazing - the pilot did good! Pictures are awesome...apparently they flew into a flock of geese a few minutes after take off...
Thanks God for everyone getting off ok and the skill of the crew and the selfless wat in which the ferry pilots got straight in there possibly not knowing if the plane would blow up...

surreal. I was doing a slideshow of all the photos (138 of them) It amazes me when these things happen. All those times you listen to the staff as they do the whole safety features/what to do if...
I've been over the ocean a couple of times and thought of such an event occurring.

each time I get on a plane, I get one of them little $5 bottles of red wine. doesn't matter if its 6 am, noon, or eve, its my little nerve-settler that prevents the plane from crashing. its been pretty effective in both settling my nerves and preventing the planes from crashing.smile.gif

I finally got to turn on the news. Apparently the pilot of the plane used to be the Chairman of some sort of airline safety committee and ocassioned to be a crash investigator for the NTSB. Those passengers got extra lucky on that flight!

Man seeing this on the news brought tears to my eyes. Angels were under that plane and God was definitely showing us that he lives among us still. It really brought me to a strong emotional tie to him this morning.

Those people hit the pilot jackpot for that flight. Not only does the pilot have over 40 years of flight experience F-14s and commercial airliners, was the Chairman of the Pilot's Union Safety Committee, a NTSB investigator, but he is also a glider pilot... for real. Amazing guy, really.

I don't know either, but apparently he did walk the length of the plane twice to make sure everyone was off before he exited himself. That is a heckuva guy.

You're allowed to have liquids on the plane as long as they are purchased after the security checkpoint.  I'm guessing he probably buys it on the plane.

That photo of what seems like 100 passengers all standing on the wings is amazing.

How scary that must have been, wondering if the thing would sink before the ferry's got to you and go you loaded up.
