Humpday

Morning to one and all.

I have a day off today for I have a man coming with his big drill to drill a hole in my house...

I have picked a good day to be off. It is cold but very bright and sun filled!!

However I have a load of chores - the house is totally neglected....so I need to start cleaning and ironing everywhere... I need to switch the computer off though as I can not discipline myself to stay off it otherwise...

Have a great day everyone smile

Good day all.

I agree Pip, if I have the computer on, I get nothing else done.

I'm not seeing a whole lot on my plate today. The day may go smoothly.

Ugh. I was up at 3am getting sick. Came back to bed and hubby was up at 4am until 5:30am getting sick both ways. I think the stomach flu may have hit our house. cry I only had a one time deal basically so I came to work. I'm still wondering if my food just didn't agree with me but hubby is shivering and everything. He stayed home. He was still having issues when I left. My stomach is a bit off but I'm gonna try to eat something and see if it helps.

I had weird dreams too. First one before I was sick, I was pregnant. The one before I realized hubby was up and sick- my step-daughter's half-brother(who was younger in this) was put in our fish tank to calm him because he was crying. Apparently he could breathe in water and he liked it. It eventually disturbed me and I pulled him out. weirdface.gif

Carry on...

Howdy.

I was up from 3:30 - 4:15 too. A server got overloaded and quit responding long enough to set off the monitoring.

On with the day!

oh hello nerd.gif

last night at the bank this big manager came down and announced there was a mandatory meeting at 3:30 on monday. well its mandatory, but certainly not for us part timers, duh. So I'll find out what the scoop is when I go in monday at 6.

dude was kinda a wussy, and pale as a ghost. I bet cuts are coming there. everyone else who is full time seemed kinda chilled by this announcement.

Morning again, all. I've been at the office for a bit. It never starts the day on the right note when someone is standing at my desk waiting for me when I come in. Oh well... that issue has been taken care of for now. smile.gif

Woo... sorry you and your hubby are not feeling so hot.

Pip... good luck with the hole drilling.

JD... you've probably guessed the announcment correctly. Bummer!

HI everybody else! Hope everyone is having a great day anyway.

ya its a bummer. Not so much for me, I just wanted more mad money. But some of them people have been there for years, some as full-timers. its them I'm concerned for....

if it comes down to a need to reduce head-count, I'll volentarily throw in the towel if it saves someone else. Lol although being low man on the totem pole, I'm probably first out anyhow if this is indeed the case..

Not necessarily JD. You will probably stay and you voluntarily leaving won't help anyone. They may lay off full-time employees. We all know that, no matter where you work, us full-time folk cost a lot more that part-time people. If it is costs they are cutting, your $7.50/hr job doesn't compare with someone's imputed cost of $35/hr job.

well I hope they'd give the option of the full timers going to part time then, based on senority. I wouldn't feel right being the newbie and I get to keep my job while people who can do it better in their sleep even than me have to walk. no.gif

Profits down 65% for U.S. Bank
By Paul Gores of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Jan. 21, 2009 11:51 a.m.

The parent company of U.S. Bank said today that profits fell 65% in the fourth quarter as it added almost $1.3 billion to reserves to cover loans that could go bad.

Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp reported fourth-quarter net income of $330 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with $942 million, or 54 cents, in the same period last year.

"Although we were able to absorb the increased cost of credit and market-related write-downs, I am disappointed with the overall decline in this quarter's earnings," Richard K. Davis, chairman, president and chief executive, said in a news release.

However, Davis noted that the bank has remained profitable in a difficult economic environment and continues making new loans.

"Importantly, during the fourth quarter, our business lines originated over $16 billion in new loans to businesses and consumers," Davis said.

U.S. Bancorp, formerly Milwaukee-based Firstar Corp., has 121 branches in Wisconsin and is second in deposit market share in the state to M&I Bank, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. figures.

By late morning, U.S. Bancorp stock was down $2.38, or 15.5%, to $12.96. That's well off the 52-week high of $42.23.

You can feel bad for me if you want. I opened my 401k statement yesterday and I lost another 8k. In three lousy months. no.gif

I need to win the lottery just to protect myself and my retirement.

This is my old 401k. No new contributions. I never moved it to my current job's 401k. The old account has better funds. I haven't seen the statement for the current account yet. It is still small by any means, but it still worries me. That seems like a good idea though, to reduce contribution %. I could cut it in half and it would still be a decent contribution. It could take years to recover the losses in the other account. Provided they recover.

I was thinking about this a bit back, our 401k administrator said "well a down market is good for investors. You buy more shares at a better price. The chances of 1000 shares going up a penny is much more likely than 10 shares going up a dollar.

Fine, good. But with what money am I buying them shares? You done lost my money thus far.

I know. The problem is the shares need to rise. If they are still falling it doesn't do us any good. Oh well. I was a bit bummed after I looked at that last night. Silly me.

Note to self: win big lottery jackpot and live off the interest.

You were smart Mema. I knew things were bad, I guess I didn't realize they were this bad. I also don't know why I don't remember the mess after last quarter. I guess it was a traumatic event and I blocked it our from my memory.

aw Mema, that stinks. I hope she'll be ok. they can't just slash folks and expect to keep the quality service that got them to where they are in the first place...
