RE: Humpday

The day of the first big crash, a whole bunch of people around here went looking at their 401K accounts. There were grown men in tears. I decided right then that nothing good could possibly come from looking.

A year ago, I put $8,000 in my IRA. $4,000 for '07 and $4,000 for '08. Today, that plus an extra $3,000 is "gone".

What also gets me is that this could (and hopefully will) come back. If it does, we should be buying and contributing all we can right now while its cheap. But, that is assuming the prices will come back to what they once were.

The bank where my wife works stock price was around $25.00 for years. They got hit really hard with the housing market problems, there was a buyout that started but didn't finish, plus everything else.

I'm looking right now, the stock price is $1.89.

Many employees' retirement accounts went back into bank stocks. Fortunately, my wife didn't put her's back into stock.

But now we're looking at this $1.89 wondering if we should buy all we can with the hope that it will go back up. Even back up to $6.00 would triple our money.

Its scary but tempting.

I got my most recent statement just yesterday. I stuck it in a pile of mail on the counter. I'm still contributing at my previous rate. I'm hoping to take advantage of the "buy while it's cheap" idea.

Web - if it hangs around that range, then clean up their issues and someone buys them, your money could still triple. I do not invest in company stock (if applicable). And certainly not heavily invested. Maybe a few shares. That is how all those Enron employees lost everything.

Yeah, I know. Even a buyout should go well above the current price.

They really are in pretty good financial shape. I do expect it to turn around, but not sure that I expect it enough to sink more money into them.

Depending how much yo have invested, it may be better to let it go.
