They say God works in mysterious ways, but GET REAL!

I love that they quit their jobs and took off for Florida right away.

-------------------------

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania man said he considered it divine providence when a bank error put more than $175,000 in his and his wife's account.

Fifty-year-old Randy Pratt and 36-year-old Melissa Pratt face trial in Columbia County Court on felony theft and conspiracy charges. They waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

The trouble started when a $1,772.50 deposit to the Pratts' FNB Bank account showed up as $177,250 last summer. Police say that instead of telling the bank, they withdrew the money, quit their jobs and moved to Florida.

They were buying a house in the Orlando area when the mistake was traced.

Randy Pratt told the Bloomsburg Press Enterprise he did attempt to ask the bank what happened, but was ignored. He said he considered the money "a gift from God."

The couple gave away thousands of dollars, including $25,000 to a Florida church shelter for the homeless, he said.

Randy Pratt remained in county prison. A judge denied a request to lower his $100,000 bail. Melissa Pratt, who told the court she was estranged from her husband, was free on unsecured bail.

Seriously? Who thinks a bank won't catch that error sooner or later? And you can't afford to do not do anything for $175k. You won't get far. Sometimes people are just, well you know.

I had something like that go against me a couple of years back. I wrote a check to pay on a credit card. I received a note from my bank saying that my check bounced and the check was covered by my overdraft. I did my research and immedately called the bank. I explained it to them and even told them to pull the check in question. The lady told me she would work on it. Now it sucked double because this happen while I was laid off. It was not like I really had that extra to pay. I couldn't figure out how the cc company didn't cathc the difference btween the posted batch and the deposit to the bank. no.gif I called the credit card company after it happened too. The bank didn't seem to do much about it. I called back a couple of weeks later and went through the whole thing, again. The person I talked to then said she didn't see any notes on my file about this or my original call. I eventually got it all straightened out, but I shouldn't have had to go through any of that.
