Sugar Cream Pie

I'm a terrible Hoosier.  Today I found out that our state pie is sugar cream pie.  Not only have I never had sugar cream pie, I've never even heard of it before.

What does everyone else think of sugar cream pie?

SUGAR CREAM PIE

1 2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. boiling water
1 c. light cream
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
9" pie shell

Combine sugar, flour and salt. Stir in boiling water. Add light cream, nutmeg and vanilla. Pour in pie shell. Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake an additional 40 minutes.

Big girls small fries. aka Big girls don't cry.

I am an elephant man. aka I am an innocent man.

M mother had this older lady that she worked with years ago that had a ton of these. And she believed she had the words correct.

In CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?", I was never quite sure of the line. I thought it may be "have you ever seen the rain coming down for forty days?" I was recently told the line is "coming down on a sunny day?"

Summer Breeze-Seals & Crofts

Ever since I was little I swear it said "blowing throught the chasms in my mind". I heard it on a CD a couple of years ago & found out it says "blowing through the jasmine in my mind". I didn't know what jasmine was when I was little, I guess.

I can now change my vote to NO. I made the pie yesterday and experimented with my test monkeys. The results were as follows:

Mr. DS -- "It kinda reminds me of super sweet malto meal or tapioca. The bottom layer was kinda gummy and the top was runny. Please don't make this again."

Isaac -- Upon spitting back out onto his plate, "What is this?!!! It tastes like a disaster!"

Jacob -- "Ummm, I'm not eating THAT..."

Now, because I've never experienced sugar cream pie (except for my attempt), I can't be a fair judge. I followed the directions exact until the suggested baking time. After 40 minutes, the center wasn't "set", therefore, I baked an additional 10 minutes. Still not set -- in for another 15 minutes. Not quite set -- how about another 10. Ummm.... center STILL not set, crust is a bit too brown -- better take it out.

Still though, I don't think I'll be making a second attempt.
