Anyone use a water filter or a filtered pitcher?

I never believed those filters do anything of value to the water, but Erica bought a PUR filtered water pitcher for in the fridge & I really do think I notice a difference in taste.

I always date my water bottles and then refill them for a week or so.  I've noticed that when I refill them with the filtered water it tastes much closer to the orginal bottled water.

I thought it might be the power of suggestion but I don't know, because I've also noticed that at the end of the week the water bottles are still crystal clear, whereas when I filled them over and over with tap water they would be kind of cloudy at the end of the week.

Anyone else notice a real difference with their filters?

COME ON!  YOU KNOW YOU WANNA TELL ME!

I need to vote twice. We used to have an on the tap filter, but the filters were more expensive for it and it messed up the water stream, so we switched to a pitcher. I can totally tell the difference, especially if the water gets warm. It's like the tap water has a taste, but the filter gets rid of it and it's more flavorless.

we still have tasty water, and none of my kids have grown extra apendages, so i think we're good... although jacob seems to be twice as dumb -- maybe he's grown and extra brain...

Yeah, I agree. The water has less taste and that's a good thing.

I have always wondered about these things but never bought one for myself because it just seemed like it was not going to do much. I mean, the water drips fairly quickly out of the top of the pitcher into the bottom, how much filtering can it actually do. But I guess it does plenty.

I'd love to take a cup of dirty water, like old clothes washing water and pour it through just to see what the water comes out like.

Of course, I'd want to do that with a pitcher I was ready to throw out.

You mean normal tap water?

I've always been fine with tap as long as it's ice cold.  I guzzle it so fast that I don't really get a chance to taste it anyway.

But I did always notice a big difference between the bottled water and the refilled tap water.

Now with the filter I don't notice any real difference.

It's nice though, because it's so much cheaper than buying bottled water exclusively.

Oh sorry DS. Obviously you meant tap because you voted NO.

I've always wanted to do that too!

I actually have a favorite bottled water, pitiful, huh? Well, two actually, but one is mint water. My favorite water is Smart Water, because it's practically nothing. They filter it and distill it to death. But of course, it's expensive, so I settle for the pitcher.

Oh, and my parents have a well, and their water smells faintly like sulfur. I never noticed it when I lived at home, but now when I go back I do.

I use a filtered pitcher up at the cabin.  We have well water up there, which tastes a lot different than city water here at home........sometimes there's a metallic taste in the water due to the type of pipe in our well.  So I bought a filtered pitcher to see if it gets rid of it, and surprisingly, it does!

I forgot where I was in Wisconsin, I think I was at a cabin somewhere, and I'd have sworn the water was pumped directly from the lake the cabin was on. It smelled SO fishy. bleh.gif

When my grandparents had a cabin on the lake, I was always told to drink the bottled water that we brought along, not the tap water (or I guess I should say, water out of the pump).

Hey, here's a fun fact I learned on the Food Network.

If you want to make perfectly clear ice, with none of that cloudiness and almost no expansion, use distilled water.

If you don't have distilled water boil tap water, let it cool to room temperature, then boil it again.

After that you can freeze it and it'll be clear as glass!  nod.gif

Don't know why, but it seemed like an interesting fact that would fit in this thread.  smile.gif

You can also try rinsing your rice a few times before you cook it.  winksmile

Oh I got a brita filter 2 gallon thing in my fridge. G-gal has the PUR filter too. I believe it totally totally makes a diffence. I very rarely, if ever, willing drink water from a tap alone.

go fill up a clear glass with the filtered water, then another one with the tap. the tap water is totally gross....

Hm, that makes me want to start freezing bottles of water to see which ones come out clear, and then just buy that type.

When I first read this, I read Ghost's comment first, and was thinking, "Why wouldn't you want your rice to expand?"

So was everyone here skeptical they would work before you tried one?

I probably would have bought one ten years ago but I figured it was just another scam to get money from us.  Like how could we ever prove the water wasn't better because of the filter.

ever since that crypto outbreak in what- 1992 or 3? I used a filter or bottled water. Or jugs from the store filled through their filter.

If you want visible evidence of the difference filtering makes, make two trays of ice cubes - one with filtered water and one with tap water. I did it, and the visible difference in impurities is convincing enough to make me use filtered water for most anything. And I agree, the water tastes better longer when filtered.

I've used both the on the tap filter and the pitcher filter. I believe both improved the taste and quality of tap water. At present, I have a side by side fridge with filtered water and ice in the door which is what I use for drinking water at home.
