Gotta say, I'm lovin' this. It seems like the owners have finally wised up and the economy has perhaps forced them to be more responsible. The Yankees excluded of course.
Barry Bonds still can't get a deal. I would bet, considering he's willing to play for league minimum, that 20 of the MLB teams would love to have him on their bench, but NO ONE wants the toxic media coverage that comes with signing a lying drug user. Ben Sheets (of glass) spent six years with the Brewers mostly on the DL. He's an amazing pitcher cabapable of great things, but he's a cry baby that sits out five times a year with anything from strained butt muscles to blisters to hang nails. He let us down when we needed him most last year due to yet another injury.
Still, we offered arbitration meaning a one year deal probably around $14 million. He said no. Today it's reported the last team that seemed interested (the Texas Rangers) have passed on him. Two weeks until spring training and he's still without a team. When he does sign it won't be for anywhere near the 14 million he turned down from us.
Manny Ramirez. Possibly in the top three hitters in all of baseball. Last year while still under contract he stopped playing for Boston because he wanted more money. At one point he claimed his knee was hurt, when they had him take an MRI he presented the wrong knee for imaging.
Two weeks to spring training and no one is willing to take the head case on long term. He's without a team and his options are quickly shrinking to the team that offered him a huge one year deal to begin with, the LA Dodgers.
Scott Boras, A-Hole agent extrodinaire is being lambasted in the papers by GM's across the league finally fed up with his tactics. More and more teams are beginning to avoid drafting his players and don't want to trade for any players he represents. They're finally realizing it's easier to deal with the other 300 agents in baseball that with this ego maniac.
Yes, it's been a good offseason (unless your name is Bonds, Boras, Ramirez or Sheets that is)
