A bill has been introduced in the Kansas State Senate to eliminate the death penalty. This is not because of the cruel and unusual punishment arguments. Not because anyone has wrongfully been put to death. No, none of that... it is a cost cutting measure. Apparently they figure they could save on average $500,000 per case if they take the death penalty off the table. Not that this would help the 10 people currently on death row in Kanas, but if this passes then the heinous murders going forward would not be eligible.
