I can see the argument for it, but I don't think it's such a great idea. I'm sure it would have to erase good memories too... and at any rate, we frequently learn more from our truly painful experiences than we do from the good ones. I have loads of memories I sure wish I didn't, but those experiences are part of what made me who I am. I kind of like me.
Those just suppress the memories. This is bridging on mind control. Wasn't there some weird Jim Carrey movie about this subject? I think is called something like 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'.
