Who Has Summer Vacation Plans?

Does everyone already have plans?  I'm heading to Ft. Myers Florida in July.  It's hot but the beaches are empty and getting around doesn't take 2 1/2 hours to go 10 miles.  Plus our sister-in-law lives there and the lodging is FREE!!!  I like the hot weather anyway and the wife and kids enjoy "shelling".  But sitting at the Outrigger with a couple of drinks while the sun sets is verrrrrrrry relaxing.  I can't wait!

I have plans to head to New Orleans the 2nd last week in May. Taking the "City of New Orleans" Amtrak train, in one of the private rooms. I've wanted to take a long train trip once in my life, and with the federal budget putting Amtrak on the cutting block for next year, I figured its now or never!

Working and maybe going camping.  We're short on money this year, so unfortunately we don't get to take a real vacation this summer.  We'll just have to plan something totally awesome for next year.

So far it's looking slim, minus the occasional weekend of camping. I have, for the first time in 8 years, a full week off of work right after Memorial day that just got approved.  I'm not sure where to go, although some friends have suggested I hit Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, OH, home of the most roller coasters in the world.

I'm certainly tempted.

Cedar Point rocks!  Go during a weekday though.  On the weekend you can literally wait hours in line to go one some rollercoasters.

I'm trying to get over to visit a friend in Holland in June, but that may pan out this year - not finding any good flight deals, and like many of you, funds are minimal this year. Aside from that I'm doing the local amusement park circuit. I'm about equi-distant from Hershey Park, King's Dominion and Busch Gardens so we hit them all. I'm starting mid-next month with a VIP visit to Busch Gardens to ride their new haunted attraction!! That's an adults-only visit (lots of trips through the free beer tour!), after that the rest will be with the tyke!

JD-- you are going to love the train.  I have taken several excursions on Amtrak, and since you have the compartment it makes it better.  I would do it more often but time is a factor.

This summer, June anyway, My wife and two kids and I are going to Italy.  I have always wanted to visit Rome, Venice, Pisa, and Sicily.  (Mom is Sicilian): and then we are taking a cruise around the Greek Iles for a few days.  I can't wait.  My wife and kids always travel abroad, but having been self employed before, I was never able to join them.  I usually do weekends in Vegas with the Family.

Can't wait, CP. So many people that I've talked to are "why don't you just fly, its quicker?" And I usually have to answer something like "Because a plane is not the train", or "Its not about the destination, its about the journey".

I don't drive to Chicago anymore- the train from Milw to Chi and back is just too easy!
