Buying a Computer?

Hello all it's been a while since I have written. I have a question to the all listeners that use a computers. (ha ha that would be everyone that listens to Freeze Frame ) With my tax return I would like to buy a computer (less than $1000) and have anyone of you bought one on Ebay? If so tell me about your experience.

I've only had one bad experience and that was to someone I sold to.  I would read all posts to their ebay ratings.  Just check things out.  Send an email to the seller and ask questions.  Although it's rare people will try to take advantage...buyer beware!  I once bought a digital camera for $120 less than the Best Buy price and was very satisfied.  So take it for what its worth.

Depending on what you want to do with the computer.  You would be surprised how Dell can do for you.  I bought both of my daughters the Inspiron 1000.  I think it was 599 each.  They play games, Sims, etc and have had no troubles.  I have a dell 9100, the hummer, and it has been a great laptop.  It travels with me all over the country.

I agree with CP. It is a matter of what you are looking for in features of a computer. I have been satisfied with my Dell. There customer service is always ranked high and you can get a really good deal. I would suggest checking their website. They always have deals. If you don't want a standard computer, I believe you can build your computer and see how much it would cost. You can even call them and have someone walk you through everything. They get it out to you quickly too. Good luck.

I also have a Dell, I've been very satisfied. Also the price was very competitive.

You might also check out local computer shops.  A lot of them have awesome rebuilt computers for super cheap, and they usually offer a warranty and technical support.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Oddly ness on eBay they are selling dell computer still in the box. Let me tell you a little about me and computers. At home I have generic computer (I built)that is 650 MHz with a p2 and only 128 meg. of ram. It's a dinosaur. I built a 950 MHz computer and all it needs is an operator system. I know I can but software etc... But I would rather get a new system. Here are things I will do with it, finances, internet use, no games, word processing etc... So with all of that. Maybe I should check out Dell. If you have a problem how is customer service?
