WARNING *** BROADCAST PROBLEMS MAY OCCUR

We have been experiencing an incredibly bad run of internet drops during the past week, averaging three drops a day!


This is because of the crappy service provided by SBC Ameritech.


We will be working on some issues with our broadcast situation this week, and there may be periods of down-time as a result.  I will make every effort to have these outages occur in the evening hours when the fewest people are likely to be affected.


The biggest change we will be making is a switch-over to a cable internet provider, the hope is their service will be more reliable than SBC has been.


A major push will also be made to try and get the new request system up and running.


I just wanted to let everyone know that during this transition the potential exists for a disaster that could knock us off the air for an extended period of time.  If we disappear, just check the web site for updates on our status.

I am excited for this change. A bit of pain now for hopefully better service. TOO often I've had drops on Sunday due to the unreliability of SBC. Riggs you really HATE SBC, hey? Even for phone service? They are terrible in my opinion. Really an incompetent bast*#d son of Ameritech, which was also terrible...

Yes J.D., I hate them for a variety of reasons.  And I'm looking forward to telling them where to stick it in about two weeks.


After we make this switch, I'll be setting the studio up with the new Packet 8 broadband phone that we've been advertising, and at that point the phone company will no longer be needed!

Excellent! Way to give the thumbs up to them for their support of the station! It hits me every once in awhile (particularly after a drop), just how cutting-edge internet radio is, especially for us non-corporate broadcasters- we are held captive to the imperfect and often-times arrogant services of the big-boys. Hopefully THIS ENDS and the big boys will be held to the high standards of those NEEDING to build a business built on quality, lest they die!

Yeah, the big phone company in my area is SBC too.  I hate them with a passion.  Then, I got this flyer in the mail about Sage Telecom (www.sagetelecom.com).  I get more for the same price I was paying with SBC without being hassled everytime I call customer service.  I end up paying about $30 a month after taxes and I get 100 minutes of free long distance, free call waiting, free caller ID, and free call forwarding.  (I think I get something else too with that, but I don't use it, so I don't remember.)  Since I don't have a cable connection, I can't do the cable telephone service, but I think I come out pretty well with the whole deal without having to deal with SBC!

I assume one of those 'broadcast problems' is occurring now?  I was out all day and came back in just now at 9 pm EDT and the station is not up according to Live365.

sorry folks- riggs is doing battle with them SBC (*&$#(*&*$#. We're hoping that the end result will be less drops overall, but right now the battle is ugly
