Songs that SUCK!

I'm not usually such a negative person. But I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to vent about the songs playing that are annoying them.

Let me get it started-

Jane's Getting Serious is the most requested.  What the heck?  It's the same person requesting it!

The Sheryl Crow/Kid Rock duet.  I don't even know the name of it.  I don't know why but I never liked it.  It's like finger nails on a chalk board to me.  Everytime it's on I turn it off.

Ditto that on Jane's Getting Serious.  I am SO tired of that song!   (But I think everybody knows that already.)  I'm also not a Brittney fan, I can deal with one song on the top 10, but two?!

OK, these will not surprise anyone whose heard my blather.

  • "Barbie Girl"
  • Madonna's "American Pie", which seems to have disappeared.
  • Brittany's "My Perogative"

I actually like "Jane...." but yeah, way to much play time.

All right!  It's 3:10 PM CT, and "Jane...." is on.  Who requested it?  Fess up.

I believe you mean the Muppets.  And I'll take any annoying muppets song over Jane's Getting Serious at the moment.  Don't get me wrong, it's an okay song, but I'm so sick of it!  It's literally been played twice as much as the Muppets' song.  And I have a feeling that the same person requesting Jane's Getting Serious is also requesting Love is Alive.  Also an okay song, but I'm getting sick of it.

All of the songs mentioned above, except the muppet song.

And Michael Bolton's "how can we be lovers"...yeah, that's starting to get old.

LOL- Riggs will back me 100% on this. Part of the fun of the station for me is the CRINGE factor that some songs can generate, for a lifetime. I remember being 12 when Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" came out- TOO SHYEYE HUSHHUSH eye2eye. I remember going "I will hate this song for my entire life. SO FAR, I HAVE BEEN RIGHT!!

Other songs- for example, Susudio- OMG does anyone remember that being played like every 15 minutes for like 7 yrs!!!!??? And I am a HUGE Springsteen fan, but till this day, the album version of "Born in the USA" gets on my nerves due to it being played to death in 1985 and 6 on every pop station in town!!

There will always be "those songs" that hit our listeners the wrong way and make them groan- especially our daily work folk tied to their desks. REMEMBER- in the live365 player window, you can vote Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN for any song listed in the cue. We here at the station get those stats. If we see a certain trend involving a song- either positive or negative, that can have an effect on the decision to feature it more often on the regular play-list, or perhaps even take it off of the request system!

Freeze Frame Radio- its a democracy!!

Britney Spears she must be getting a hell of a lot of thumbs down, but as much as i cant stand her, i feel it would be wrong to remove her or any other of the annoying songs as obviously someone likes them, and thats the beauty of interactive radio, you get what you ask for, and some ones asking!

well another consolation is that riggs continues to add songs to the request list too- upto 5600 right now- more to choose from, request away!

JD, before I read your thread, I just requested Too Shy!  Sorry!  It's one of those songs that I didn't care for when it came out, but now it makes me reminisce.

Oh, Star!  I love Mickey by Toni Basil.  It's my daughter's favorite song and when I hear it I think of her with her little pom poms (that used to MY University of Alabama pom poms, ROLL TIDE!) jumping around the living room singing it.  She can't carry a tune in a bucket, but she sure does try.

I don't know which song I think sucks the worst.  I'll have to think on it and get back to ya.  Good topic, though.

I agree with Ultimo.  To remove any one song or artist defeats the entire purpose of the station.  I hear many songs that I do not care to listen to.  However, will gladly listen to be able to request a song I wish to hear.

JD, sorry it is me that does the Never Ending Story. It reminds me of certain event in my youth that still makes me smile.  I have not requested it for over a week now, so maybe now it is someone else.

I am grateful you all put up with my Frank Sinatra requests.  Jeremy, thanks for the addition of LA  Is My Lady.

cp- not a problem bro! there are "those" songs as well that are tied to events in our lives worth remembereing- hahaha for me its "Careless Whisper" by WHAM. TERRIBLE! But tied to a GOOOOOOD memory!

And hey, if you are ordering up the Sinatra, well that's JUST FINE IN MY BOOK!!!

I possibly have a unique perspective on the songs that suck thread.  I am a songwriting musician and before I set off on the songwriting tightrope, I admit I listened to music somewhat differently than I do today. Alot happens from sitting at the piano or guitar during the writing process to arranging, recording, mixing and editing.  There are alot of chefs stirring the soup sometimes.  There are times this helps, and times it doesn't.  Either way, it is like capturing lightning in a bottle to write the elusive "hit" song.  Needless to say, I try and disect songs now for things I like and things I dont.  But every song starts as an idea in someone's head....and to me that is the truly amazing part of music......sorry for the dissertation.....

Excellent thread idea...................... -Dylan

I agree Dylan.  My husband is a guitarist, and since I've met him, I've been around tons of musicians.  I'm now able to recognize elements in songs that I like, and now I can tell you why I like them.  For example, I know I like the rhythm in a song to be as much a part of the song as the melody.  And there's just something sexy about an awesome bass line.

Ah, yes, Dylan.  You raise a very good point.  Working in design for a living, and having a few creative outlets outside of work, I understand what you mean by the glorious confusion that is the creative process.  Let me add this to the discussion.

Creativity is one of the sharpest double-edged swords.  I am in full support of the idea that no one can dictate to an artist what is art.  Creating art is personal, it comes from the heart.  The other edge of the sword is that no artist can tell an audience how they must or must not respond to their art.  It is really hard when you've poured all you've got into a creation and all you get in  response is "Ah, no.  Don't think so."  So easily we respond as artists "You don't know what that piece took to complete!"  Sad but true, some pieces just don't work.  Not even good PR and marketing can pull of the "sow's ear = silk purse" formula.

In the end we have Grammy winners, and a "Songs that SUCK!" thread.

  I'm done.

As long as her loving mother/manager told her to, or at least until Kevin wanted to snuggle (EWWW!).

Hey, it's not like Bobby Brown really cares.  He needs the cash!

All right, enough nastiness.  Hearing "Barbie Girl" does that to me.
