JD! You starting a signature line fight?

Are ya?!?  C'mon!  I can take you!  Let's go!  evileye.gif

I won't even bring up how we just pissed away 3 BILLION dollars to shred cars only weeks before telling senior citizens we're freezing their social security benefits for two years (while still slightly raising their medicare premiums).

Kind of makes it easy to understand why old folks are showing up scared and screaming at town hall meetings don't it?

More change we can believe in.  no.gif

But don't worry.  I won't mention it.  wink.gif

man $4000 credits to get you fat cat jesus and gun lovin truck drivin hillbillies into new affordable economical fuel efficient cars which as a by-product could save american jobs and the Earth itself, and you can bring up a social security increase freeze? With a what 10.4% unemployment rate???  maybe we should have gone with Bush's plans to dissolve social security and put that money into the stock market. no

OK GO. devil.gif

Yeah, it sucks that the seniors are getting the short end of the stick BUT the C.A.R.S. program was an attempt to stimulate the economy with the hope that people would go out and spend some money on a new car, not to mention that it had to help out the auto industry a little bit.  And if I remember right, it was your party that was talking of getting rid of Social Security all together.  That would have left the seniors in a royal cluster****.

Shredding the cars though wasn't exactly a smart thing to do though unless they were really old and falling apart.  Shredding them only takes away affordable transportation for people that really can't afford to spend too much on a car.

But I do have to go to sleep. I'm worried about actually getting up for this stupid day shift. I'm not a morning person and all week I haven't been able to fall asleep until 4 AM. If that happens tonight I'm screwed.

It kills me though how you liberals refuse to criticize Obama for anything while willing to criticize Bush for everything.

I've been good. I've mostly stayed quiet through the start of this scary new chapter in our history. But if Bush schedule a program as frivolous as Cash For Clunkers you guys would have ripped him from limb to limb.

If he allocated a billion dollars and said the program would run until November only to have it run out of cash in a week you wouldn't be advocating the spending of another two billion. You'd be ripping on him and the administration for their inability to accurately plan the program.

But with Obama in charge it's a huge success story. Look how wonderful his program is, it's SO popular he wasted all that money in only a week.

Meanwhile the cars that the poorest people need to buy are being shredded and they can overpay for their 90,000 mile junkers. Yet somehow even THAT is the fault of us greedy Republicans for allowing supply and demand to dictate prices.

I wish I were a Liberal. I would LOVE to live in the computer generated wonderland they do, where the answer to every problem is to join hands and sing Kumbaya. Unfortunately I'm stuck in reality. hmm.gif

Have a good night buddy wink.gif

I look forward to the torching I'm sure you're about to administer while I drift off into sleep.

ARGH!

See, that's the main difference between liberals and conservatives. IT'S NOT MY JOB TO SAVE FORD, or GM or CHRYSTLER.

It's the job of the company to run itself in a manner that is profitable. When they fail you can't keep reaching into my wallet to take out money to give them.

I'm NOT A RICH MAN. I work hard for my money and should be allowed to KEEP IT.

3 Billion dollars for Cash for Clunkers comes out to more than $75 from every single taxpaying citizen in this country. WHY IN THE HELL should I give $75 so someone else can get a nicer car?

Besides that the rules of the damn thing were so goofy that it didn't even get the worst cars off the road. The WORST cars are the 20 year old cadillacs located in the inner city. Those folks can't trade in for a thirty thousand dollar Hybrid just because you offered em' 4500 bucks to do it.

The only people that gained from this are a select few that were in a position to buy a car to begin with. At the cost of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.

Admit it, if this was a Bush plan you'd be on this very forum blasting him as a buffoon. YOU KNOW YOU WOULD!

We're not talking about Bush anymore buddy.

It's time for the almight Obama to stand on his own.  The programs he's putting in effect now have nothing to do with Bush.  He's screwing up all on his own now.

The hypocrisy of the liberal media and the Obamanites is just amazing.

And to use your own words, it wasn't my job to save the banks either, but Bush did it anyway.  And how many times did they come back for more money??  That's gonna cost me, my kids, their kids, and those kids' kids way more than $75 each.

You're right, and I never once supported his decision publicly. Nor did I support his decision to send out stimulus checks.

If you can find a place where I supported those decisions I'll eat the oldest pair of sneakers you own Sandy!

Bush wasn't perfect. But where's the outrage when Obama wastes money? Where's the media scrutiny when a member of his cabinet does what Hilary did in the Congo?

The silence is deafening.

The media is so sickening liberal that it's like watching children who stomp their feet when they don't get their way and just sit their smiling eating a cookie when they do get their way.

The positive spin on all this reckless spending and move toward government run EVERYTHING is just disgusting to me.

Glenn Beck (Fox News) is going to be good this week. He has dug into Obama's czars and is going to expose all the connections with ACORN, etc.

For example . . . one of Obama's czars was arrested for rioting during the Rodney King incident. But, when a senior citizen stands up in a town hall meeting and demands accountability, the liberals label him as an "angry mob" . . . and the liberal media spins it as such. This same czar is also a SELF PROCLAIMED COMMUNIST, and yet Obama is looking to this guy for leadership advice for our country? That is just one example.

I dare, the open minded, free thinkers to watch Beck this week with a truly open mind and consider the evidence that will be provided. I double dog dare ya.

I believe this is an all-week thing. Beck is on FoxNews from 5:00pm - 6:00pm Eastern, and then again 2:00 - 3:00am (for your DVR).

I don't like how Beck loads the points he presents with sarcasm, but his points make a lot of sense. I wish he'd leave the sarcasm out and just present the facts . . . his points would be even harder to dismiss.

Glenn Beck is not a Bush lover. He's about common sense, democracy, our constitution, and a better America.

I don't get it JD . . . you say Bush was spending money we don't have. I agree, that is a problem. Obama is taking that deficit times what is is now, at least twice or even three times what Bush's was? If we didn't have the money then, spending twice + that and going even deeper and deeper into debt is now a good thing?

Clinton? Oh yeah, he's the guy who pointed his thumb at each and every one of us, looked us all in the eye and lied to us. There's a stand up guy for ya.

What has the government ever taken over that turned out to be a good thing? What has ever ended up being a success after they took it over? Yet, Obama is wanting to take control of more and more. Him believing that he is somehow smarter than every other leader before him and his plans are all going to turn into gold is pure arrogance. All I ask is that rather than us just throwing money (we don't have) at him to spend at will, how about we actually look at what he wants to spend it on? Is that too much to ask?

You want national health care? Go live on a government Indian reservation. Go see for yourself what government ran health care looks like because that is what we'll be getting too. Ask Pip or Ultimo what government ran health care looks like over there. Ask them how long it takes to get something done.

I don't hate Obama just because of who he is. I just think he's taking us in the wrong direction. Bigger government is not my idea of a better America. Bigger government was not the foundation of what this country was formed on. Obama wants bigger government. That is not Bush's fault.

I fully believe in my heart that history will show that if Obama gets his way on everything he is pushing, these things will prove to be many of the biggest mistakes we've ever made. You wanna blame Bush for everything now? Fine, blame Bush, but someday Obama is going to have to answer for his own actions and won't be able to hide behind Bush. I'm curious how long it will take before the Obama followers will finally wonder and ask "what are we getting for our taxes?"

So what are we supposed to do? Are we just supposed stick our heads in the sand and not question where Obama wants to take us? We're just supposed to trust that an inexperienced community organizer knows what is best for us just because he says so? Sorry, I can't do that. I prefer we apply a little common sense to these things, not just blindly follow and keep writing blank checks with the money that you and I are working for.

Interesting bit of trivia regarding Cash For Clunkers: My son works for a Ford dealership. I asked him how it was going for them. He said they have about $180K worth of trade-ins made under this program just sitting on their lot. They cannot sell the cars, they have to be disabled and crushed which they cannot do until the government pays out. To date, the government has paid out to the dealership where he works for 2 cars. This is a very, very common story.

There has been a boost in car sales related to C.A.R.S. This boost will die off with end of the program. There will be a temporary increase in orders to car manufacturers as the dealerships seek to restock their inventories somewhat. Unfortunately, there are dealerships all over the country who are not able to do so because they are sitting on a surplus of vehicles they can't do anything with.

I've also been told that there is a little side note to the C.A.R.S. deal that a lot of people are not familiar with: The people who traded in the cars might actually be taxed on the difference between the value of the trade in and the amount they received through the program. I was told that the tax could be as much as 50%. I do not know for sure that this is accurate, but the information was passed along by a car dealer. If this really does happen, then I suspect there will be a lot of very angry people come tax time.

Ghost... I believe the incident that was being referred to was part of a press conference that Hillary participated in. A journalist asked her a question regarding Obama's opinions related to some foreign policy issues. The translator who was interpreting for Hillary incorrectly translated the question as "What does Bill Clinton think about...". Hillary blew a gasket and said she would not comment on her husband's opinions because he is not the President or Secretary of State. It came off really badly. Apparently when the press conference was officially over, someone informed Hillary that the guy's question was mis-translated and that he did in fact ask about Obama's opinions. She apologized to the reporter for the misunderstanding.

Some of the mainstream news programs did pick up the story and play the video of the incident. Most were talking about how apparently stressed she must be, opined on whether she is reaching her breaking point and stuff like that.

In my honest opinion, I don't think Obama is a bad guy. I don't think he is trying to ruin the country. I do think he is spending a lot of money that there is not a good answer for how it is going to be paid back. I think this is a large problem looming on down the road and will likely fall on my grandkids to shoulder the burden for. I believe this is referred to as generational theft. Obama didn't invent it, but he sure is helping to commit it.

Bush did spend money that we did not have on these wars. As I've stated before, I believe Afghanistan was the right thing to do. Iraq, not so much... but you had to see it coming when he got an in to the Middle East. He was there, might as well visit the neighbors. So far Obama has not come up with a reasonable plan to extricate us from there. It is not as easy to do as he apparently thought during his campaign. He too is spending loads of money on that effort. Congress should not be given a pass for this. Nancy P. and company were in charge of the purse strings when all this got started. No matter how they spin it now, they approved it then. Bush did not act alone in that effort. Bush is not an evil guy either. He was doing what he thought was right, and that is exactly why he was voted into office not once but twice.

Clinton did some good things like balance the budget. He also did some very bad things like allow this country to be kicked around by terrorist organizations and did not very much about it. His lackluster, Hillary led health care reform attempt didn't go anywhere. He expanded and perpetuated the financial policies that lead to the irresponsible mortgage lending practices that helped to trigger the recession. Let us not forget that Bush inherited that little time bomb from Clinton.

Bush did not invent the programs that listen in on citizen's phone calls... he just expanded on them. Bush did not invent extraordinary rendition either. By the way, Obama hasn't terminated either of these programs. He very quietly announced one day that he didn't think it would serve the national interest to do so.

It really doesn't matter which party is in control of the government, there are no completely good or bad guys. They spend a lot of time finger pointing and not much time FIXING things. Obama and the Democrats castigate Bush and the Republicans for how much they spent on the wars while they are spending even more on all of these other programs that may or may not actually help anything.  It is all money that we don't have.

Does it really make sense for one administration to overspend just because the previous one did? There is a lot of talking head criticism of the people who speak out against Obama because he is our President and therefore should be respected. Where was that outrage when this was being done to Bush when he was our President? Seems to me there was a lot of bandwagon jumping where it came to Bush-bashing. NOBODY should be comparing ANYBODY to Hitler and the Nazis... both sides are guilty of that.

Bottom line, Obama does not walk on water. Bush did not light the fires in hell. Its about time everybody got past the partisan rehetoric and got down to fixing the things that are wrong.

Thanks, Web.

I get really tired of all the pointless bickering about who is the evil one. Every administration in modern history has had some dirt on them. Take a long hard look at the financing behind ANY one of the Senators and Representatives who have been around for a while... ALL of them are in bed with the insurance industry, the energy industry, the healthcare industry... If you want to know why nothing really ever changes, it is because both sides of the aisle are being paid to not change anything. Elections cost money, first and foremost these people want to be re-elected... its just dumb to bite the hand that feeds you.

That was an excellent summation Mema.

I agree, the bickering between the sides is annoying. I think the problem is that from the moment an election is over the loser is thinking about how to get back in power and the only way they see to accomplish that is to attack the person in office.

I love the debate, but my frustration boils over when I see the hypocrisy in the media and the people that loved to trash Bush but don't seem to hold Obama responsible for not keeping his campaign promises or the failures of his administration.

George Bush made mistakes. Reagan made mistakes. As a Republican I can admit to this. But I swear to God, among my liberal friends and most of the liberal media I NEVER hear them EVER accept the failures of their party, choosing instead to blame everything on the previous administration.

It's also just nice to have a thread with some substance once in awhile. We've all got our opinions, every once in awhile it's nice to hear them.

For those who are unable to watch Glenn Beck, today he presented some questions.

Even though, the people who need to answer these questions say this is only hate, I agree with Beck that these are fair questions and we deserve answers to these questions by the elected officials that should have the answers to them.

- We are in so much debt, why spend more borrowed money on cap-and-trade and healthcare programs before we stop the flow of red-ink?

- The stimulus package funneled billions of dollars to ACORN. How does giving billions of dollars to ACORN stimulate the economy?

- If it was so important for congress to pass the stimulus bill before they even had time to read it why has only a fraction of the stimulus money been spent 6 months later?

- Bush said he had to abandon free market principles in order to save them, how exactly does that work?

- Why wont member of Congress read the bills before they vote on them?

- Why are citizens mocked and laughed at when they ask their congressman to read the bills before they vote on them?

- Was the cash-for-clunkers program meant to save the earth or the economy? Did it accomplish either?

- How did Van Jones, a self-proclaimed communist become a special advisor to the president?

- Did President Obama know of Van Jones radical political beliefs when he named him special advisor?

- The Apollo Alliance claimed credit for writing the stimulus billwhy was this group allowed to write any portion of this bill?

- If politicians arent writing the bills and arent reading the bills, do they have any idea what these 1000 page plus bills actually impose on the American people?

- If the public option health care plan is so good why wont politicians agree to have that as their plan?

- If town hall meetings are intended for the politicians to learn whats on our mindwhy do they spend so much time talking instead of listening?

- Politicians are refusing to attend town hall meetings complaining, without evidence, that they are scripted. Does that mean we shouldnt come out and vote for you since every campaign stop, baby kiss and speech you give is scripted?

- Why would you want to overwhelm the system?

- Is using the economic crises to rush legislation through congress what Rahm Emanuel meant when he talked about not letting a crises go to waste?

- What are the czars paid? What is the budget for their staffs/offices?

Are these not fair questions? If not, what is not fair about them? If they are fair, why are they not answered when asked?

My main question is if both sides of the isle don't know what excatly is in these 1,500 page bills, who wrote them, why do we have bills going through our government that our representatives didn't write, and who exactly wrote them?
