RE: Cool Tuesday

I saw a little bit of this show "Life After People." I don't remember what channel it was on. But it went through and tried to show what would happen if all people suddenly disappeared.

I fully agree with you there, Mz.

I think this is one thing that we all can agree on . . . our legislative system is broken.

This is my frustration, and it makes me ask: If our legislative system is broken, how can one broken system effectively and correctly fix other broken systems? I don't think it can, or ever will.

I think we need to fix the root of the problem first.

I agree.  It's just too corrupt.  But like Fuzzy said, how do we fix it?

I don't know if it would really fix things or not, but I'd like to see the end of the electoral college and bipartisan politics.

We could start by not continuing to re-elect senetors decade after decade...

I would like to see the electoral college history too.  Let the true numbers speak for themselves!

Agreed.

For the last number of years, new wannabe politicians having been using the "boot them all out" campaign. It hasn't worked out so well. Somehow (that's right, don't ask me how) we all have to start making our voices heard in large numbers. More and more people have to step up and be involved. I admit I am a sheep. I just go along with what's going on and I don't try to make a difference or change anything. There are too many people like me. We have to change to inspire broader change. I don't think there is an easy fix, as I am sure we all agree to that. We need to do it piece by piece. The obvious problem is where do we start and how do we do it.

I think the ones using the "boot them all out" campaigns have a hard time raising money.  I suspect that has a lot to do with it.

"Boot them all out" only works if you really do boot them all out. That is the problem... we never do. The longer they stay in Congress, the more corrupt they get because all they care about is staying there.

Just this morning I heard on the news that the esteemed chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D), somehow managed to "forget" about the $500K in his checking account when he went to do his taxes. He has also "forgotten" about various other assets and therefore failed to pay taxes on them. This guy is the head of the committee that writes the checks for the government and he can't manage to keep track of his frigging personal checkbook?!?!?! And he is supposed to be one of the "good guys".

To put it in other terms, this hayhoo has managed to "forget" about enough money that if it was in my posession I could pay off my house, pay off my truck note, pay off my motorcycle note, pay off my credit cards AND my student loans, AND have enough money left over to pay off Pambo's house and car notes, and her credit cards, and STILL have money left over.

Ok then, besides an angry mob...

How are the town-hall meetings in your state going?  It seems that the few that have been held around Oklahoma have been good.  Everyday people are being heard, and I think it's been a long time, but our elected officials are (finally) listening.

I wish I knew how to fix it, I don't. We are all going to have to work together.
