How about some adorable guinea pigs?

 

Guinea pigs squeek. I think they would fit in with the other animals.

At one time my youngest sister had a few animals, plus we had temporary custody of the soon to be brother-in-law's cat and the dog that was in the house first.

Turtle
Guinea pig
Rabbit (that was my other sister)
Cat
Dog

Talk about a chain of animals.

My sister lost the turtle. She had him outside so he could wander around. She was on the phone. After quite a while she couldn't find him.

The guinea pig and the rabbit eventually went to a friend of a friend's that had many more of each.

The cat used to try and beat up the dog. The dog didn't care. The cat went with when my sister and her man moved into the apartment.

That just left the dog who was there in the first place.

Yeah, they can when they want to.  Our neighbors used to have a desert tortoise named Zippy that they would let wander around the yard (while they were outside of course).  Sometimes I would bring Floyd (our Mississippi Map turtle, a water turtle and much smaller than a tortoise) outside and let him wander around too.  We'd joke that if we raced the turtles, even though he was a fifth of the size, Floyd would beat Zippy.

I was just at the post office mailing off Christmas cards and packages. This mom walks in with her little girl of about 3 years old... wearing her red Christmas dress and fancy black shoes. She immediately takes off running in circles around a block of PO Boxes and and the Priority Mail box yelling "HAPPY TWO YEARS!!! HAPPY TWO YEARS!"
